XT120R Review | Crate | Guitar Amplifiers | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Crate XT120R amplifier emerges as a solid choice for musicians seeking reliability and affordability with its 120 watts driving dual 12" speakers. It shines in delivering distortion for metal and hard rock, but its clean channel also holds its own. While the FlexWave Evolution 5 preamp gives it a commendable sound profile, the absence of built-in effects might leave some wanting, especially compared to models like the Crate RFX 120R. Its true 3-channel operation with reverb and a 3-button footswitch offers flexibility, yet some users express a preference for alternatives like the Line 6 Spider 2. Overall, while not groundbreaking, the XT120R is a competent contender for beginners and budget-conscious players.

ultimate-guitar.com

The Crate XT120R offers strong metal and clean channel performance, but lacks in the rhythm department with weak distortion. Its reliability is commendable, surviving rough handling and extreme temperatures. However, it's noisy at high volumes and lacks built-in effects, making it less versatile compared to competitors like Line 6. If you're after a reliable practice and gig amp without built-in effects, it might suit your needs, but consider alternatives if you want more tonal variety.

Great amp!

This is my main amp, and I like it a lot. Sounds amazing, but the hiss is pretty godawful when you get to the high gain channel

This is the amp I use. It's pretty versatile, you can use it for pristine clean tones all the way to raunchy high-gain metal tones
