In this post, Tommy states the he uses Daddario Tapewound strings. He uses these strings to try and achieve a specific bass tone for songs he has written

I use these only on the p bass for an upright like sound, the D'addarios are the best tapewounds because that have a machine so they get no over wrapping so they don't lacquer over them making them sound like plastic
Those strings have a lot of warmth but they also don't kill the mid-high and high freqs. I completely love them for my vintage precision bass
