Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Donner DP-2 Guitar Pedal Power Supply.

Features and functionality

  • Donner DP-2 is not fully isolated; filtered with separate short circuit protection but shares a power source.

    Source
  • Specific looper issues may arise if the draw exceeds the DP-2's capacity, as seen with a 195mA looper causing problems.

    Source
  • Users found success by unplugging high-current pedals during startup and plugging them in after other pedals are powered up to prevent flashing issues.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners report no noise issues with Donner DP-2, while others experience noise, often depending on power source quality.

    Source
  • Some owners report a persistent hum when using the Donner DP-2 with a diverse pedal setup, indicating potential noise issues with certain configurations.

    Source
  • Some users report frustration with the Donner's polarity issues and lack of an included power supply, highlighting potential setup complications.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Vitoos Iso4Plus offers better isolation than Donner, isolating groups of 4 outputs.

    Source
  • The Truetone CS6 allows daisy chaining from higher amperage ports, providing a cost-effective solution for powering multiple pedals.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Donner DP-2 may perform adequately in newer homes or non-gig situations due to built-in filtering.

    Source
  • The Donner DP-2 might require checking pedal polarity (center negative or positive) to ensure compatibility and prevent operational issues.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Buying used high-end models like Walrus Audio Phoenix can offer better long-term value despite higher upfront costs.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Low volume may result from insufficient power output; check adapter's mA output against total pedal draw to avoid underpowering.

    Source
  • Faulty patch cables can mimic power supply issues; replacing them resolved noise and volume problems for some users.

    Source
  • The Donner DP-2 may struggle with high current draw during startup, causing pedals to flash, which can be resolved by upgrading the wall wart to 2 amps.

The Donner DP-2 Guitar Pedal Power Supply – Rocking Live

rockinglive.com

Donner DP-2 offers a substantial upgrade from basic daisy chains, boasting ten output sockets and reduced noise interference. The compact, robust design is appealing, providing short circuit and overcurrent protection, and a variety of voltage options for different pedal needs. However, it falls short with its misleading claim of 'isolated outputs,' since they aren't fully isolated, leading to potential noise bleed between pedals. The power supply's affordability makes it attractive for budget-conscious musicians, but those seeking truly isolated outputs will need to look elsewhere, like the pricier Truetone CS12. Overall, it's a decent step up for those upgrading from a daisy chain without breaking the bank.

Cheap AF and works well.

I used to have a BBE supper charger which is very similar to the Voodoo Pedal Power. I never had a problem with it other than the fact it only had eight isolated outlets. I currently have two of these Donner Power Supply bricks on my board because of a lone reverse polarity pedal that needs its own supply. I like that they can fit onto one row and they have a nice LED display. I may upgrade in the future but so far this model is just fine.

Thirty Dollars All-Inclusive

I had a 1-spot daisy chain I acquired for free that I had considered using to power my new board, or maybe going in the opposite direction and shelling out $100 or more for a voodoo labs supply. I opted for this thirty dollar unit from Amazon instead. Not only does it work very well, it is small enough to be mounted under the slanted Gator boards. It also lights up blue so that your board looks cool. I was worried it wouldn't power my Digitech Whammy DT, however it powers it fine on the higher dc inputs. As an added bonus, this comes with nine or ten dc cables (didn't have to buy separate/ pay extra)! Great buy, highly recommend.

Great features, great value!

Has better power options and more ports than the Voodoo Labs Power Plus 2, which costs 3 times the price. Has worked great for me so far, powering a dozen pedals (yes, I am actually using a daisy-chain off my TU-3 for a couple pedals).
