T-Rex Fuel Tank Chameleon Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The T-Rex Fuel Tank Chameleon is a robust and versatile power supply, perfect for musicians needing variable voltage options. It delivers noiseless performance across multiple pedals, offering switchable outlets between 9V, 12V, and 18V, and accommodating up to five devices simultaneously. While its sturdy design and included cables are commendable for flexible setups, adjusting the voltage can be tricky due to the small switches. Ideal for complex rigs, the Chameleon might be overkill for simpler setups. Overall, it's a great choice for those seeking adaptability in their pedalboard power solutions.

Revised Review after 7 years of usage

Got this back in 2014. Found it versatile with a bunch of useful cables. Fast forward to 2021, this unit gives out noise (literally coming out of the supply).

Relooked at the manual and Trex recommends to place this linear power supply away from effects to minimise noise. It's true as my Chameleon sits below the pedals. For years, there's noise from my 300mA MXR reverb pedal and 18V distortion/overdrive pedals. I've recently changed to a newer switching power supply and the board is finally dead silent.

Best choice for high mA pedals.

Bought this exclusively for my high mA pedals like the POG2 and Blue Sky. Love this power supply. It makes a strange sound when its on. kind of a buzz. but this sound comes from the power supply. it does not sound on the amp or puts strange noise on the guitar signal. Love this one.

Nice power supply

I have owned this piece for just a week now but I have already come to love it. The outputs are isolated which is preventing your pedals from humming, something a have experienced before. The Fuel Tank is quite powerful and can run several pedals which requires a lot of electricity. No matter if you use several pedals on one output or one output for each pedal the Fuel Tank is sure to give you what you want!

Noise and hum

Noise and hum make this power supply bad.

Top Notch

Bought for horns section receiver (total 5 unit) rack mount. But, ended up at my pedal board. Will definitely put it back when I bough mine. Haha.

not regulated!

To my surprise, this is not regulated. Found out when using Fulltone pedals, that needed this. Truetone One Spot is the one you need.

Recently Depeche Mode swept through Copenhagen on their 2017 World Tour and T-Rex jumped at the opportunity to meet up with Jez Webb, Martin Gore’s guitar tech, to take a sneak peek at how they use our pedals to produce the amazing sound they are known for. By coupling the T-Rex Octavius and Bass Juice analog pedals with the more modern Kemper and Rivera amps they produced an intoxicatingly fat, warm sound. It was particularly exciting to check-out how they were utilizing the FuelTank Power Supplies such as, Classic, Chameleon and Junior based on the amount of juice they need.
