Owner Insights
We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Walrus Audio Aetos 8-Output Power Supply.
Features and functionality
-
The Aetos has six 100mA outputs and two 300mA outputs, with a courtesy plug that can power additional devices like the HX Stomp.
Source -
The Aetos' inability to power the Walrus Polychrome and Electro Harmonix Memory Boy suggests potential compatibility issues with specific analog pedals despite their low power draw.
Source -
The Aetos can power an EHX Memory Man 24v using the courtesy plug, eliminating the need for an additional power supply on the pedalboard.
Source
User experience
-
Owners report that proximity noise from toroidal transformer PSUs can affect high gain pedals if placed too close, but it's generally not a significant issue compared to guitar noise.
Source -
Some owners successfully expand their setup by using GigRig Isolators with a CIOKS7, allowing for more pedals from a single PSU without compromising power stability.
Source -
Users transitioning from a 1spot to the Aetos report significantly less noise with effects like the Boss RE-20 and drive pedals.
Source
Comparisons
-
Some users suggest the Aetos isn't as future-proof as other options like the Strymon Zuma due to its output limits, but it's sufficient for smaller setups.
Source -
Users suggest alternatives like the Voodoo Lab PP3+ or Fender Engine Room V12 for setups requiring up to 12 pedals, offering more flexible power options.
Source
Value and pricing
-
It's noted that while the Aetos is more expensive, alternatives like the MXR Brick offer similar functionality at a lower price.
Source
Setup and maintenance
-
Owners recommend calculating the mA draw of each pedal to ensure compatibility; e.g., the Strymon TimeLine requires 300mA, which may exceed the Aetos' capacity for some outputs.
Source
Software and compatibility
-
There is uncertainty about powering Meris pedals with 100mA outputs; users should verify if the stated 150mA is actual consumption or just the supplied power adapter rating.

Clean in Every Way
I was tired of dicking around with the batteries required feed my small stable of guitar pedals so did a healthy bit of searching. The Aetos proved to be great. Super clean in look, operation and sound. Running with a Roland Blues Cube. Clean sound is what I'm after, and I am extremely happy with this little box. UPDATE: I have found that the Walrus Aetos does not have the amperage to run some Strymon pedals. More an issue with Strymon than Walrus, but worth noting.

'Thing 1' is set up at the drum station, and runs through a board with an EHX Nano Big Muff, EHX Bass9, EHX Nano Holy Grail, and a Radial Pro DI. A Walrus Aetos keeps them all powered up."
