The amazing sound of a robot crying
I think ring modulators are really underrated, though I understand that they don't work in most musical situations. I just think something's so... just cool about them and I'm not sure I can really put it into words. I find its glitchy squeaks and metallic sound strangely beautiful. Closest I can do beyond that is to say you should listen to The Mars Volta's "Roulette Dares (The Haunt of)" and hopefully you'll see what I mean regarding its beauty.

"Here's a short experimental video by Radiohead's Thom Yorke -- look carefully, and you'll spot his Frequency Analyzer, Stereo Polychorus, and Big Muff Pi."
"This pedal is visible in photos from the recording of In Rainbows, but it is not immediately evident on any recordings."
In the YouTube video titled "PedalsAndEffects: Part II With Tim Lefebvre On Creating Octave Sounds," Tim Lefebvre demonstrates the Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer XO, showcasing its role in crafting unique octave effects.
Part of the Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer ring modulator pedal is shown in this Pomplamoose video, if only for a split second.
"I'm using it instead of the Moog ring modulator that I usually use, because it has more variety in it. Really cool pedal."
"Awesome ring modulator. Brand new. Only used in the demo below. Adds moving harmonies to the note or chords being played. Unlike other Ring Modulators, the Frequency Analyzer has controllable high order filters that reduce cross distortions and enhance the variations. The course and fine control let the user set a single frequency that will then be both added and subtracted from the original note or chord. Blend control lets you mix the new notes with the original." - Weiner about Frequency Analyzer.
Conner showed some of the gear that he used for the fourth Haken album (later called Affinity and came out in 2016) in this post.
Bortnick uses an Electroharmonix Frequency Analyzer. “That's a cool sound,” he says, “but it's even cooler if you can manipulate it a little bit,” (17:13)
Like his bandmates, Stasik goes big on his pedalboard. His signal enters the board through a Boss TU-3 tuner, then hits a loop switcher controlling a Moogerfooger MF-1-1 Lowpass Filter (controlled by a Moog EP-3 expression pedal), 3Leaf Audio Wonderlove envelope filter and You’re Doom fuzz pedals, an Xotic effects Bass BB Preamp, a Boss OC-3 Super Octave, a DigiTech Bass Synth Wah, and an Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer ring modulator.
Chris Cayford, guitarist for Rolo Tomassi, uses the Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer XO, as detailed in the Pedalmaniacs article "Pedais do Chris Cayford." Note: It is often mistakenly listed as a Big Muff Nano.
“The Line 6 Helix is amazing - super flexible in terms of routing (compared to a normal pedal setup) and programming. It can integrate with other stompboxes easily, and can send MIDI to control Ableton Live. I also use Line 6’s M9 a lot for gigs and all sorts - it’s brilliant.
If I had to pick a few pedals, though, it’d be the Digitech Whammy, EHX Memory Man and EHX Frequency Analyzer.”
