The best kept secret in Fender history.
There's not much information around about this very stylish 60w rackmount Fender, except that both Nickelback guitarists still use them as their clean amps in their touring rig. Don't let the band's reputation fool you, think of it this way: they could afford to tour with any setup they could dream of, but they go for the relatively unknown late 80s Fender. Why? Because it just sounds so clear and full. Despite the red-knob-era track record, this amp has both the classic Fender tone and reverb, plus a superb tank-like build quality. Definitely sounds better than the Super 60 combo versions, as the sound really opens up with a proper 4x12" cab. Put a compressor and a chorus in front of this or in the effects loop and you are in INXS land. They can be had dirt cheap, so get two and run a stereo setup. They're that good.

I willtake your word on the price, but I have literally NEVER seen one od these rack units for sale because there was a time I woulda bought one when I ran a stereo setup with older Marshalls and Fenders and a rack and woulda liked to have added this in.... how long have you had yours?

Great clean sounds - huge volume differences
This amp has an incredible clean sound - on par with a Twin if not better. However, it has also a drive channel which shares the equalization with the clean channel. The drive channel´s sound is on an OK level, it is useable but not subperb.
However what annoyed me, is the fact that the volume difference between the two channels is too big. As I a result, I sold it. Later I found out there are possiblities to mod the amp to get this solved.
If you are looking for a great clean sound - get one. Pricewise the amp is a still a sleeper so you can get a great clean sound for 300 - 400 Euros.

you don't see too many of these, if you just need a clean fender sound in a rack or you're willing to mod her to balance the volume like certain mesas and the split channel 800s of the era? you should keep her. its a sleeper, sure, but they also are not common and if you like it, there's nothing else quite like it in fender history, not even the other red knob circuits.

Just ordered this Fender Super 60 rack head from Guitar Center for $250 plus $50 tax, shipping and handling. They show up occasionally on Reverb for about $300. I have had a Super 60 112 combo for 30 years and recently it started turning off after about 20 minutes then just died. Tubes are good so I figured the preamp is fried, although the power amp section still works. I was playing through a zoom g9.2tt guitar effects console plugged into the power amp section, which wasn't bad, but I really missed the sound of the fender combo clean channel with a Zcat tremolo pedal. When I saw the rack head I ordered it. Looking forward to see how it sounds through the 112 Fender speaker and also through a 210 speaker setup. Will have to make up a speaker cable with a male plug for the amp and two slider connections to connect the head directly to the Fender 112 speaker.

I have also used the Super 60 as a Power amp only using an Engel 520 preamp. Sound was quite nice. This setup avoided the volume difference of the two channels.
