Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fishman Platinum Pro EQ Analog Preamp.

Use cases and applications

  • The Fishman Platinum Pro EQ is effective with piezo-equipped instruments, delivering a warm tone, but may sound harsh with electric guitars using effects like the Proco Rat.

    Source
  • Direct connections from pickups like the Realist may need troubleshooting; testing with different instruments or setups is recommended.

    Source
  • The onboard tuner, compressor, and boost switch can free up significant pedalboard space, appealing to players seeking a multi-functional preamp for electric bass.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The lack of a blend control in the effects loop is noted; users suggest adding a split/blend pedal to achieve parallel processing.

    Source
  • The preamp's fixed signal chain order may limit flexibility, with EQ, compressor, and boost not independently positionable in the pedal chain.

    Source
  • The preamp can operate on battery power, but using a wall power source is recommended for consistent performance.

    Source
  • The variable high-pass filter (HPF) and notch filter are highlighted as particularly beneficial for reducing feedback in louder upright gigs.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The DSM Humboldt Simplifier is mentioned as a more versatile alternative for electric guitars, offering similar functions for slightly more cost.

    Source
  • Owners have switched to the EA Doubler II for its integrated switchable HPF and notch filter options, rendering the Fishman redundant for some users in upright bass contexts.

    Source

User experience

  • It's highlighted that the Platinum Pro EQ is particularly beneficial for acoustic players who need integrated EQ, compression, and feedback control in one unit.

    Source
  • Some owners experience signal issues when using battery power; a reliable power adapter is advised for stable operation.

    Source
  • Some users initially upgraded from older Fishman models to the Platinum Pro specifically for its advanced filtering options, which are advantageous in challenging acoustic environments.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Adjusting the input trim on the side is crucial for proper signal reception; some users report issues when not set correctly.

Fishman Platinum Pro EQ review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Fishman Platinum Pro EQ Analog Preamp is a versatile powerhouse for gigging acoustic musicians. Praised for its exceptional preamp sounds, it features comprehensive controls including compression, boost, and feedback management, along with a built-in tuner. Its EQ provides a musical balance that tailors to various acoustic instruments, from guitars to mandolins. However, the LCD screen's brightness could be improved. Despite this minor flaw, the preamp's ability to enhance live sound makes it a compelling choice, rivaling even the LR Baggs Venue DI. Overall, a smart investment for serious acoustic performers.

Solid and versatile work horse

I do about 200 performances a year between two rigs and have this unit in each one. It's solid, dependable, and produces a great sound.

Easy to Use, Great Results

I’ve been using the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ Analog Preamp for a while now, and I’m really satisfied with it. The EQ provides excellent control over my tone, and the built-in tuner is quick and accurate. The compressor, despite having just one knob, does an impressive job of balancing dynamics and tightening the sound. The Notch knob is incredibly useful for eliminating unwanted resonances or feedback, especially in live situations. I’ve used it with both electric and acoustic basses, and it’s performed well with both, delivering clear and well-defined tones. It’s compact, durable, and easy to use, making it a great option for gigs. Overall, it’s a reliable, versatile preamp, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance.

Fantastic

A great preamp for acoustic guitar. Amazing control of the tone, tuner, boost... it has got everything. A Fishman solid and robust product that really can change your sound.

Nice review. Does this essentially replace the need for a separate tuner and EQ unit? DO you actually use the boost on it?

kahlor

The EQ is simply amazing.. and it replaces the tuner very well, it has one integrated that works perfectly. I DO use the boost, on solos. It has an adjustable boost up to 12db, enough for everything. And the COMPRESSOR is fantastic.... it gave me the chance to have perfect volume and dynamics in soft fingerpicking or hard strumming.

gchiaren

Good stuff, thanks for the info. Usually all-in-one units suffer in some area, but you make one of these sound pretty compelling :)

kahlor

Yeah I wasn't sure about these things myself, but this one really does it all. Should I find a flaw or a lack to be annoying... I couldn't, actually. And believe me, I can be VERY annoying ;)
