Wampler Faux Tape Echo review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Wampler Faux Tape Echo nails the essence of tape echo with modern conveniences. Its standout features include a wide range of tones and robust build, offering everything from slapback to expansive 800ms delays. The modulation options, though less random than true analog tape, add a pleasing layer of character. However, the pedal's price might be a sticking point for some. Overall, it delivers vintage echo charm in a pedalboard-friendly package, making it a compelling choice for those seeking classic sounds without the vintage hassle.

Good “tape delay” sounds

Can be really subtle and be extremely apparent. You can get some fun shoegazey sounds out of this. Also great to just experiment with.

Great sounding simple to use Analog Delay

I'm kind of set and forget guy when it comes to delays, just want them to float in the background and not get to much in the way of my playing, the Wampler sounds great and the tap tempo is a feature I like but I still sometimes just leave it on and just forget about it, the Faux Tape Real controlls are a nice feature to sculpt the sound of the tape flutter, in a way this delay is way more price and quality vise than I need, think I might swap it out for EHX Memory

Vintage tape sound

If you want some of that vintage tape sound this thing is pretty great. My only complaint i guess you could say is that you can't make it trash the sound more than it does already lol. This tape echo is darker and warmer than the other tape faux tape echos ive heard.

jimmarchi1

most actual tape echoes I have owned are NOT dark when properly maintained, but the uninitiated expect them to be

"All of Mason’s clean boost and dirt pedals are on a no-name loop box that Mason bought “from a dude on eBay.” On a separate loop station, Mason runs his more trippy effects, starting with an Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man and a Pigtronix Tremvelope. Next in line are Wampler Faux Tape Echo and Faux Spring Reverb stompboxes. The final effect is an old, tried-and-true Line 6 MM4 Modulation Modeler. "

Briggs took a more svelte approach for his pedalboard on the Coma Ecliptic tour. His stomp station includes a Boss TU-2 tuner, a Wamper Faux Tape Echo (used for a constant warbling tone), an Electro-Harmonix Bass Micro Synth (ideal for “Tom Sawyer”-ish bass-synth washiness), a Boss DD-3 Digital Delay, Boss TR-2 Tremolo, Boss PS-3 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay (Briggs’ favorite pedal, which he currently uses as a chorus), and a Darkglass Electronics Duality Fuzz (which replaced a Keeley-modded Ibanez Tube Screamer because the Duality has a mix knob that allows Briggs to keep a more natural tone of low-end fury)
