Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Gretsch G5622T Electromatic.

Setup and maintenance

  • Removing the pickguard can eliminate buzzing sounds, and applying Loctite to the neck strap pin may be necessary for secure fitment.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Older Korean models feature Super HiLo'Tron pickups, which offer a distinct "Gretsch Jangle" compared to the generic humbucker sound of Chinese models with Broad'Tron pickups.

    Source
  • Broad'Tron pickups aim to attract Gibson players, but they don't capture traditional Gretsch sounds, which many owners seek to achieve through pickup swaps.

    Source
  • The control layout includes a master volume near the neck, with individual pickup volumes and a tone knob near the bottom cutout.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners mention that after lubricating the nut, the guitar maintains tuning stability even with Bigsby use.

    Source
  • One owner highlighted that the guitar arrived perfectly setup and was ready to play straight out of the box, performing well both plugged in and acoustically.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Super HiLo'Tron pickups in older models are described as low output, providing a unique tonal quality distinct from typical humbuckers, making them desirable for authentic Gretsch tones.

    Source
  • The G5622T's center block design results in a more muted sound compared to more hollow models, differing significantly from 335's due to different tops and design.

    Source

Build quality

  • It's noted that the bridges on Gretsch guitars, including the G5622T, often rattle and sound dead, with many owners recommending replacements like Tru-Arc or Compton for better performance.

    Source
  • Owners note the guitar weighs approximately 11 lbs (4.9 kg), which is slightly heavier than some models but adds to the robust feel.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners suggest TV Jones Classics pickups, ideally unpotted, for a versatile "do-everything" tone, or Setzer Signatures for more mids and a Brian Setzer sound.

    Source
  • Pickup height adjustments are crucial for achieving desired tones with filtertrons; raising pickups can significantly enhance the sound quality.

    Source
  • GFS Retrotrons are suggested as an affordable pickup swap while retaining original pickups for potential future use.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • A Road Runner case is preferred for its protective qualities and convenience in travel, fitting well in overhead bins and suitable for motorcycle use.

Gretsch G5622T Electromatic Review – Guitars For Idiots

guitarsforidiots.com

A stunning semi-hollow guitar, the Gretsch G5622T Electromatic showcases beautiful aesthetics and solid construction, earning an impressive overall score of 8.3. Its Hilo’Tron pickups deliver a vintage sound that can channel everything from surf rock to punk, but they fall short of the clarity found in pricier models. The Bigsby tremolo adds charm but compromises tuning stability, making it tricky for expressive play. While the price may be a bit steep for some, the overall value remains solid. It’s a fun guitar that shines in versatility but may leave some players wanting more clarity and reliability from their tremolo.

G5622T Electromatic Review: In my opinion, the G5622T is priced just a bit too... | Gretsch | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Gretsch G5622T Electromatic shines with its stunning aesthetics and solid construction, offering a rich, vintage tone that resonates across genres. However, while its Hilo'tron pickups deliver a decent sound, they fall short of the clarity and chime provided by higher-end Filter'trons. Additionally, some players may find tuning stability issues, particularly when using the Bigsby too aggressively. Despite a slightly inflated price tag for its features, this guitar remains a versatile and visually appealing choice, suitable for live performances, but it may leave discerning players wanting more for their investment.

Fun to play

Although not a top notch Gretsch, plays and sounds great. I use this mainly for Depeche Mode Medley and Lips Like Sugar by Echo & The Bunnymen.
