Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Kemper Profiler Player.

Use cases and applications

  • The Kemper Profiler Player excels when used with overdrives and chorus pedals to create versatile amp+cab setups, fitting into minimalistic rigs for travel convenience.

    Source
  • Many owners find it effective for "amp in a pedal" setups with some effects, particularly blues and funk styles with minimal effects needed.

    Source
  • The Player's compact design is ideal for rehearsals and travel, offering convenience despite the limited functionality compared to larger Profilers.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Player offers only 4 effect slots, which may limit its appeal to those accustomed to extensive customization options like the Helix.

    Source
  • Lacks a display, but once familiar with setup through apps, users find it manageable despite the initial learning curve.

    Source
  • The Profiler Player cannot store performances, only rigs, and the LED bar display limits flexibility compared to an alphanumeric display.

    Source
  • The Kemper Profiler Player lacks an FX loop and is limited to 50 onboard profiles, affecting versatility and customization during performances.

    Source
  • The Player lacks specific effects like newer reverbs, delays, and drive effects, which can be a drawback for those seeking modern soundscapes.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Owners note the Kemper captures the "tube amp mojo" feel more authentically than the HX Stomp, albeit subjective, it's a significant factor for some users.

    Source
  • The Ampero Stage 2 or Stomp 2 offers more effects and a touchscreen for creating/editing presets, appealing to those needing more than the Kemper Player's minimalistic setup.

    Source

User experience

  • Many users find that the Player reduces time spent on sound tweaking, allowing more focus on playing, unlike some modelers that require frequent adjustments.

    Source
  • Users recommend the Midi Captain mini6 for additional switching options and a small screen to enhance usability with the Player.

    Source
  • Owners note that powering the unit with a USB cable can cause sluggish performance, specifically in preset changes, highlighting a potential power-related issue.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Rig Manager connectivity can expand the display, while MIDI controllers can enhance switching options, addressing some user interface limitations.

    Source
  • Users report that the phone app is glitchy, but connectivity with Rig Manager is stable, allowing for more reliable profile edits and management.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Some owners feel that for a slightly higher cost, the full Profiler offers significantly more features, questioning the Player’s value proposition.

Critic Reviews

Kemper Profiler Player review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Kemper Profiler Player delivers impressive, authentic amp tones and a wide range of effects, making it a solid choice for players across genres. However, newcomers may find the controls initially confusing, and the absence of a graphical display could hinder live performances. Additionally, its high power requirements limit compatible third-party supplies. Overall, while it shines in studio use with the Rig Manager app, it may not be the most accessible option for everyone. A good value for dedicated users, but there are notable limitations.

DLC is dumb.

I got this purely to be able to take performances off my the Kemper Rack and take it to smaller gigs, church, etc. It does that pretty well.

That's terrific, and especially on the amp front this is the best option you're going to get. That said, I largely pull effects from the Kemper platform, and having to pay an extra pile of cash to be able to a lot of that stuff is dumb. I purchased this unit before the "Level 2 and 3" nonsense was announced, figuring they hadn't developed the software yet. I was right, but I didn't expect to have to pay almost half the price of another unit to be able to get that update.

I still haven't paid for it. I'll be taking that $300 and putting it towards general pedals that'll get me closer enough. I love Kemper in general, but this is an annoyance)

Excellent device

After spending some time with the profiler topic, I somehow got stuck with the Kemper Profiler Player. The possibilities offered by the Profiler Player are really excellent. The fact that the smaller player can also play back the rigs of its bigger brothers ultimately convinced me. I've been playing it for six months now and I'm still very happy with the sound and quality - even though I only started playing electric guitar about two years ago.
