Best Mesa I ever owend for alternate

If you play a 7 or 8 String Guitar you have to check this amp out. The voicing and total control you get with the low tunings is incredible. This amp makes your guitar growl. So what’s not to like about the JP-2C? Virtually nothing, unless a forest of controls pushes your panic button. The thing is, complex as it may look, everything on this amp is there for good reason, and the logic of it all quickly becomes apparent as you start exploring what each channel has to offer. In short, the JP-2C replicates many of the qualities of the Mark IIC+ while delivering greater clean headroom and more distortion. It’s a surprisingly flexible amp considering it was made to accommodate John Petrucci’s style, and even if its furious gain potential isn’t something everyone needs, the JP-2C is by no means a one-trick pony. This is an amp that’s absolutely worth it.

At 1:02 in the video, John says " I have been playing Mesa for over 30 years, and as many of you know im a huge fan of the Mark IIC amp, as you can hear it on almost every dream theater album. My new signature amp is based off the Mark IIC."

Premier Guitar, 2019

Yes. This whole record was my Mesa/Boogie signature. It’s a dream come true for me. The Mark IIC+ was the holy grail Boogie that came out in the ’80s. It’s on Master of Puppets and everything. Then, finally, I convinced them to do a reissue and we made it into my signature head. So not only is it a bona fide reissue, but we modernized it as well. So, it does everything it could possibly need to do. My guitars on the record are mostly the Majesty plugged straight into my JP-2C. And that’s it. If I plugged my guitar into that amp, cranked it, and we looked at each other, like, “Holy shit, that tone is unbelievable,” then it’s the engineer’s job to capture it. Put a mic on it and make it sound like that coming out of the monitors. And for the first time, we added a little bit of room mic.

In an interview conducted by Amit Sharma of musicradar on Oct. 19, 2017, Thomson is quoted as saying "This is the new Petrucci signature head that’s based on the Mark IIC+ - which had that classic Dream Theater and early Metallica sound. It’s probably the best amp I’ve ever played and I’ve been using it over the last year of touring on the Gray Chapter cycle" and “Despite the fact I have my own signature amp, I’ve just started using this one. I’ll still plug in my Riveras on different stuff - they’re great amps in their own right - but I’ve never been so impressed by one amp."
