Novation X-Station 25

soundonsound.com

The Novation X-Station 25 is a versatile piece of gear, boasting a semi-weighted keyboard, extensive controls, and a built-in synth, making it a solid choice for live performers and studio producers alike. Its integration of a MIDI controller, audio interface, and synth in one unit is impressive, offering flexibility and convenience. However, Mac users may find the drivers lacking, requiring higher specs for optimal performance. Despite its mono recording limitation with effects, the X-Station's overall functionality and design make it a leading contender in the compact controller market, especially for Windows users.

Simple, convenient and high-quality.

Small, compact and easy to handle, the novation xio is a synth for the modern-day home studio musician. its hybrid feature (midi controller and virtual analog synth) is what many bedroom rockstars would probably love. plus, the sound of its VA synth engine is in the same tradition as those of older classic novation products. may not be accurately the same sound, but no less great as it is. i predict that this model will be another sought-after portable synth, just like everything that novation came out with. another modern-day classic, indeed.

An underrated gem

According to Vintage Synth Explorer, the XioSynth25 is an evolution of their X station keyboards, but in my opinion it packs all those features and more into a really compact package. Combining very useable built in effects and the eight voice polyphony, this is a lovely little string and pad machine with a straightforward programming interface (a free editor is available too). The only downside is that this has MIDI out only, so if you want to sequence this you have to use it from a DAW.
