Trent Reznor uses the Prescription Electronics Experience Octave Swell Fuzz Effects Pedal, as indicated in the Fragility Tour program, which lists the equipment used to record "The Fragile." This information is sourced from the Nine Inch Nails Wiki.
In addition to a few custom switchers, the board houses a vintage Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man, a Boss DD-3 Digital Delay, a late ’60s Vox wah, a BK Butler Tube Driver, an early ’70s Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face, a TC Electronic Stereo Chorus, a ToadWorks Barracuda Analog Flanger, a Prescription Electronics Experience octave fuzz, and a Maestro Echoplex EP-3
Used on "Atomic Holiday", as specified in this July 20, 2012 breakdown of a A Fine Pink Mist gear list printed in the October 1996 issue of Young Guitar. It also appears in Lee's March 17, 2019 Premier Guitar Rig Rundown.
Jake E. Lee's modest pedalboard runs entirely on various flavors of 9V batteries. He starts with Mogami cables running from his guitar to a Prescription Electronics Experience pedal before hitting a mysterious silver fuzz pedal. (Lee claims it was once owned by Paul Gilbert.) After those, Lee's signal hits a Boss TU-3 tuner, a Magik Box Jake E. Lee Body Blow, an MXR Stereo Chorus, an Analog Man Bi-Chorus, and MXR Carbon Copy, and finally a Vox wah (not pictured).
Mentioned as a part of the rig used to record his debut solo album, "What Normal Was", according to November 2022 Guitar World interview.
I don’t even know if they still make those Experience pedals, but they’re hand-painted in different colors and sound great. I enjoy using the Fractal octaver too, rolling the volume down with the tone completely off to get this ghostly thing that, again, doesn’t sound like guitar, but maybe that’s why I like it!”
According to a forum post on Guitar.com, an audience member reported that Doug Martsch of Built to Spill used the Prescription Electronics Experience Octave Swell Fuzz Effects Pedal during a performance.
"That guitar didn’t produce any analog sound (the humbucker was just to drive the sustainer) except for the transducer pickup, which I ran into an Prescription Electronics Experience Fuzz, into a DI, straight to the house board. That was a great sound if you wanted to go full on industrial."
In the left top corner you can see the Experience Fuzz pedal identifying the knobs.
In the YouTube video titled "Black Angels & Pedals" by taylor witt, Christian Bland is seen pointing to a Prescription Electronics Experience Octave Swell Fuzz Effects Pedal at the 4:50 mark. The pedal is noted for its bright color, although Bland references a darker version.
Effects are a Boss TU-2 tuner, Prescription Electronics’ Yardbox and Experience pedals, Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man, and some variety of a Tube Screamer. At the moment my favorites are the Maxon OD 808 and Voodoo Lab’s Sparkle Drive. There are a few other things I use quite often, like a Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus and Pedal Power, Prescription Electronics Germ, and either a Carl Martin compressor/limiter or Boss CS-3 compressor/sustainer.
