Critic Reviews

PRS SE Torero review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The PRS SE Torero is a bold departure from the brand's signature style, embracing metal with gusto. This guitar is a "shredder's dream," boasting a mahogany body, maple top, and high-output EMG pickups for a formidable tone. However, its price and departure from traditional PRS specs might deter some purists. Despite this, its exceptional craftsmanship and playability shine, making it a standout choice for open-minded metal guitarists. If you're ready to embrace its unholy racket, the Torero is worth a serious look. PRS has always rocked; now it slays.

At 1:43 in the video, Billy goes into the reasoning of having his PRS torero out on the road with him; "On our new record Cardiology, the first single's called "like it's her birthday", and i played a guitar solo in which i used the floyd rose whammy on that, so, i needed a guitar so i could do that live, and Paul Reed Smith hooked me up with this torero.

"I’ve been playing Paul Reed Smith guitars exclusively for around seven years now. I think they have a lot of character that the majority of other guitars lack. I’m a traditionalist by nature, so I use passive pickups and accent the tone by pairing them with the right wood. With that being said, all of my guitars are completely different in some way. On this tour, and most U.S. tours, I travel with around seven of them. They are used for different tunings — one main and one backup per tuning: Drop C, Drop B, and Drop A. The 7th guitar is used as a bus guitar for warming up or teaching on the road."
