Critic Reviews

Schecter Guitar Research Omen Extreme-6 Review - Best Under $500

guitaristnextdoor.com

The Schecter Omen Extreme-6 is a formidable contender for the best metal guitar under $500. With excellent pickups and warm tones, it excels in delivering fast riffs and solos, making it ideal for modern metal enthusiasts. Its slim neck and commendable out-of-the-box action further enhance playability. While some fret buzz and limited upper fret access present minor drawbacks, these are easily manageable. If you're seeking a budget-friendly metal axe that provides substantial value for the money, this Schecter is tough to beat. However, those not into metal might want to look elsewhere.

Amazing Guitar

This guitar is good for beginners, intermediate, and pro musicians. It's great for playing hard rock, grunge, and metal riffs. The 3 way toggle switch and single coil option also makes it a good guitar for some R&B and some Jazz and Blues. Mid range price for a great guitar! Some parts may need some quick fixing or tightening if you buy it new.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Humbucker Bridge Pickup (Great for Lead anything Rock or Metal) Coil Split Neck Pickup (For a warmer blues tone or rhythm guitar)

Very good, minimal setting up was required.

Fretboard feels great, neck is great, pickups are pretty good, great for drop tunings.

Super versatile

There's many different sounds you can get out of this guitar with its coil tap feature. It sounds amazing and feels amazing. The coil tap gives you that single coil sound which sounds amazing.

Probably the best guitar in its price range

I just got this a few days ago in Ocean Blue Burst. It’s a beautiful guitar but it came with some fret buzz. I was gonna set it up anyway in Drop C with 11-50 Dunlop Heavy Core strings, so I did that and gave the neck a tiny bit more relief to make it play much better, with pretty low action. The guitar sounds great too and I can tell it will be reliable. I also got it on sale for $350, so that makes the setup I had to do well worth it. The only person I wouldn’t recommend this to is a beginner who doesn’t know how to set up a guitar.

show me where is for 350$ , in Europe for 400 euro at least :(

Beastly axe for very cheap

This is my go-to guitar for metal. The stock pickups were designed, it seems, to be lower in height and in front of very high gain. They are extremely tight, even when compared to $300 dollar pickups. They can get ice-picky up at the top and they're quite spiky, but when you roll the tone down, those higher frequencies turn into upper mid frequencies that sound brutal, and the higher notes sing into their harmonics beautifully. I suspect nickel covers would go well with the bridge, if someone wanted to install them. The guitar looks beautiful and feels amazing. The coil split option on the tone control also works surprisingly well, especially when you roll the tone down again. For under $500, this is a steal, might be the best bargain ever. I usually put 13-62 strings on it and tune to either drop B or drop A.

A reliable, go-to guitar.

I picked this up because I needed a guitar that was more comfortable to carry around than my Epiphone Les Paul and it became my all -around workhorse! The finish on my guitar has a particular brown/yellow that comes through that looks like sand just beneath the water. It catches everyone's eyes the first time! It doesn't have Seymore Duncans or EMG pickups that you CAN find on other Schecters near this price range but they're still hot and sound great. MSRP at the time of purchase was $449, got it on sale for $349 during Labor Day weekend. At around $350 it's a steal for sure.

Pretty Decent For Beginners/Intermediates.

Guitar has quite some weight but it is a bolt on. The floyd rose is good but guitar can get out of tune quickly if used excessively. Certainly built for the Rock/Metal genre. The rosewood fretboard feels nice as long as you clean it every few months when changing the strings. Been using it for quite a years now and still sounds great. Very sturdy. Tuners are decent but could be better. Pickups are great for distortion and low tunings. Cleans are good but I've heard better. Has good mids and highs. Lows are good but gets drowned out a little with my gear. I'd probably say, it's a good intro to floyd rose guitars and intermediate players. Price is worth for how long it's lasted me.

amazing guitar for its price

i bought this schecter omen extreme 6 recently in a different colorway ( natural gloss ) for 500$ and it plays very good

N

Great Lower Priced Guitar

This guitar is really good looking and never goes out of tune. In the lower to mid price range ( sub $500) these Schecters are a great option. It’s also light, but still has good sustain.
