Description
Introducing the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev 4, a remarkable reincarnation of the world's first fully programmable polyphonic synthesizer. This classic piece of gear has been reproduced with an authentic, robust sound, all while boasting the sturdiness of a modern instrument.
This renewed version ingeniously encompasses all three editions of the legendary synth: Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3. It features genuine Curtis analog VCOs and filters, just as in the classic Prophet-5 Rev3. Elements of Rev1 and Rev2 are embodied in the 2140 low-pass filters, designed by Dave Rossum, the modern equivalent of his original 2040 filters. A Rev switch allows you to choose between these two filter designs.
The Prophet-5 Rev4 is faithful to its origin, offering five voices with two multi-waveform analog oscillators, resonant analog low-pass filters and amplifiers, and a filter and amplifier envelope per voice. Modulation capabilities are provided by a multi-waveshape LFO and Poly Mod, allowing the filter envelope and oscillator B to be routed to various destinations.
For an enhanced vintage feel, the Prophet-5 Rev4 includes the Vintage knob. This feature enables you to dial in as much old-school randomness as you desire, altering the behavior of oscillators, envelopes, amplifiers, and more. Sequential has also incorporated many modern enhancements such as velocity sensitivity, aftertouch, MIDI, and USB connectivity, alongside control voltage and gate ins/outs for connectivity with modular synths and other gear.

The best synth to come out in my lifetime
The rev-4 has modern touches tastefully applied where necessary, which brings it forward to the 21st century. Once the firmware has been installed it is a reliable and can be easily taken out for gigs. It responds well to effects too. If you can pick these up second hand then this can be one of the greatest bargains you can get these days. I had a Juno-106 for a while but craved deeper modulation capabilities, and the Prophet-5 rev 4 delivered. So much so I have made it my only poly synth, and will probably remain that way.
