Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Squier Contemporary Jaguar HH ST.

User experience

  • Some users experience hand cramps due to the thick neck, although it is preferred by those who favor larger necks.

    Source
  • The 12-inch radius and jumbo frets can make high fret bends challenging for some players, particularly around frets 17-22.

    Source
  • The Shoreline Gold finish appears different in person, resembling aged brass rather than true gold, with lighting affecting its appearance significantly.

    Source
  • Owners report significant drop in volume with coil split and series/parallel mode, suggesting a preference for a neck pickup swap for clarity.

    Source

Comparisons

  • It's argued the Squier Contemporary Jaguar HH ST offers better value than Fender Blacktop models, attributed primarily to its build and playability despite lacking traditional Jaguar features.

    Source
  • Described as a "punk machine," the Contemporary Jaguar's hardtail and HH setup provide a non-traditional Jaguar experience, aligning more with heavier music styles.

    Source
  • Owners find it rivals the Yamaha Revstar Standard, which is priced significantly higher, highlighting its impressive performance at a lower cost.

    Source
  • The neck is compared to a Gibson Fat '50s, described as chunky and narrower, thicker than the J Mascis neck.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The roasted maple neck is praised for its playability, with no noticeable difference in feel between the Indian laurel and rosewood fretboards.

    Source
  • The Squier Contemporary Jaguar HH ST lacks the traditional Jaguar rhythm circuit; its switches are solely for coil splitting.

    Source
  • The series/parallel switch can produce noise when pushed towards the headstock while the 3-way switch selects the neck pickup.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners have installed a Les Trem system for tremolo functionality, addressing the lack of a stock tremolo on the guitar.

    Source
  • One owner successfully added a kill switch for touring, enhancing performance versatility.

    Source
  • Advice on wiring modifications suggests ensuring the correct order of colored leads on the PCB switch to avoid output issues.

    Source
  • Installing a Super Distortion in the bridge complements the neck pickup well, but some owners prefer a Super 2 in the neck for better tonal balance.

    Source

Build quality

  • The guitar can have issues with the stop tailpiece bolts, potentially caused by poorly drilled holes leading to oval shapes and requiring veneer shims.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The guitar may require fret edge work for smoother playability, noted to be necessary by an owner comparing it to a Vintera Jaguar.

An amazing guitar at a budget price range.

Bought this on a whim, always wanted an offset style guitar and needed something with humbuckers to fill a gap in my collection. I'm blown away with the quality and the fit and finish on this instrument. I have absolutely no complaints. The pickups are super solid, and there's a ton of versatility between the coil split and series/parallel switches. Despite being a Squier, this thing contends with my Fender guitars all day.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Short scale makes this thing super easy to play, and the pickups are great with some fuzz for those big wall-of-sound shoegaze type tones.

My Favorite Guitar

Jaguars are my favorite type of guitar, and this one is no exception. It sounds absolutely amazing. Just coming through my crappy amp alone it has a beautiful tone. The frets are closer together than they are on some other guitars (one of the things I love about Jaguars), and it isn't too heavy. It's also a Squier, so it's cheaper than some of Fender's other Jaguar models. Mine has the Sky Burst Metallic finish, and that coupled with the roasted maple neck make it the most gorgeous guitar I've ever seen. I haven't played that many guitars since I'm still pretty inexperienced, but this is by far the best guitar I've ever played.

Super confortable!!

Love this guitar, love the body and NECK! Neck is my favorite thing, so easy to play so natural! I have to say that the original pickups were not bad for the price but i swapped for a Seymour Duncan P-Rails, and now is an incredible guitar :D

lightningbiker

Absolutely incredible

Does everything that could ever be needed from a guitar, has so many different tones due to the parallel/series and humbucker/single coil switches. Bridge could have had a tremolo, however it really isn't necessary. Love this guitar!!!!
