Reviews

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Squier Cyclone Standard Series.

Setup and maintenance

  • Frets may need leveling and polishing due to pitting or rust from prolonged inactivity, causing a grinding feeling when bending strings.

    Source
  • A competent tech should handle nut installations to ensure proper playability, especially if using Graph Tech or bone materials for specific tonal benefits.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Consider replacing the original mini volume and tone pots, noting they have smaller shafts that may require new knobs to fit upgraded pots.

    Source
  • Owners recommend swapping out the bridge humbucker for a Seymour Duncan JB for improved all-around sound, handling distortions well while maintaining warmth and clarity.

    Source
  • Upgrading the tremolo block to a thicker version is suggested to match the Cyclone II's quality and improve performance.

    Source
  • Callaham saddles in narrow import size enhance tone and sustain; Graph Tech saddles offer warmth and improved string life with notches for better string alignment.

    Source
  • Kluson tuners and 2-pin locking tuners, particularly Fender-branded, are recommended for improved tuning stability, especially with a vibrato bar.

    Source
  • Graph Tech Tusq XL nuts are ideal for vibrato use; bone nuts are preferred for non-vibrato setups for better tone.

    Source
  • Custom pickguards, such as parchment from eBay, fit perfectly on MIM Cyclones but need careful selection for Squier models due to potential hole misalignment.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Squier Cyclone features a 24.75" scale length, which is rare for Fender models, offering a unique playability compared to typical Fender short scales.

    Source
  • The Squier Cyclone boasts a 9.5" radius rosewood fretboard combined with a 24.75" scale length, delivering a unique playability that differs from typical Fender scales.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some guitars may have scratchy frets due to lack of use; polishing can enhance playability without affecting sound quality.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners appreciate the Squier Cyclone's unique aesthetic but often find stock single coil pickups weak, suggesting immediate upgrades for enhanced sound quality.

    Source
  • Many players appreciate the neck's modified Jazzmaster profile, contributing to a comfortable playing experience even for those accustomed to different neck styles.

    Source
  • Some owners, transitioning from brands like Jackson and Ibanez, find the Cyclone's neck unexpectedly comfortable despite initial concerns about the shorter scale length.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Cyclone's body resembles a thicker Mustang with contours, setting it apart visually and ergonomically from other models in the Squier lineup.

My Main Guitar

I have had my Lake Placid Blue Squier Cyclone since 2011 and i absolutely love it. only modifications are an 80's Duncan JB in the bridge and a self applied competition stripe.

ant_pieger

my main live guitar for the past 4 years

best guitar for the price I've ever owned. mine is modified with an 80's Duncan JB in the bridge. would be devastated if anything happened to it.
