Critic Reviews

TC Electronic TC2290-DT review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

While the TC Electronic TC2290-DT plugin delivers beautiful delays and modulation effects, its reliance on a hardware controller for editing is a significant drawback. The controller, though solidly built, could benefit from knobs instead of buttons for smoother adjustments. More critically, the plugin cannot be edited without the controller, which feels restrictive and cumbersome, especially for mobile users. Despite the plugin's flawless emulation of the original rack unit's warmth and fluidity, the user experience is marred by these frustrating design choices. It’s a nostalgic piece that sounds great but is ultimately hindered by impracticality.

TC Electronic TC 2290-DT

soundonsound.com

The TC Electronic TC2290-DT delivers a compelling blend of nostalgia and modern functionality, offering pristine sound quality reminiscent of its legendary predecessor. Its compact design is user-friendly, featuring a tactile controller that enhances the creative process. However, accessing certain features can be cumbersome, as navigating the hardware's Special mode is less intuitive than desired. Additionally, the bright LEDs on the controller can make reading the legends challenging in low light. While it lacks the characterful delays found in newer models, its sonic purity and ability to create lush effects make it a strong contender for those seeking clarity and precision. Overall, it shines in sound but leaves some usability questions.

TC Electronic TC2290-DT Dynamic Digital Delay Review

musictech.com

The TC Electronic TC2290-DT Dynamic Digital Delay marries nostalgia with modern utility, delivering impressive sound quality and a faithful recreation of its legendary predecessor. The hardware controller feels solid and enhances interaction, but users might find its old-school interface cumbersome compared to sleek modern alternatives. The separation of functions between software and hardware can also complicate workflow, requiring attention to multiple devices. While the delay's capability to produce a variety of effects is commendable, the need for a physical controller raises questions about practicality in a software-driven era. Ultimately, the TC2290-DT shines in sound but may not fully satisfy those seeking modern convenience.

The TC Electronic TC2290-DT Dynamic Digital Delay delivers a sonic experience that marries the nostalgic charm of its predecessor with modern functionality. Its lush modulation and clear delay make it a standout, especially for those looking to enhance their studio or live sound. Another cool thing we used a lot is TC’s 2290-DT plug-in with the desktop controller. The 2290 was always a staple in all of my rigs, all my big refrigerator racks. And the plug-ins really sound true and authentic. So we ended up getting Ben Grosse one, and he used it on the mix. Whenever you hear a chorus and a guitar, that’s what it is.
