Vox Heritage Collection AC30HH head review | MusicRadar

The Vox 50th Anniversary AC30HH head offers a blend of vintage charm and modern functionality, making it a strong contender for rock and pop enthusiasts. Its hand-wired design and EF86 channel deliver a robust, clean, and crunchy sound at a competitive price. However, the absence of reverb, tremolo, and a standby switch may deter some users. Despite these omissions, the amp's build quality and tonal versatility shine, making it a valuable addition to the Vox lineup and a worthwhile investment for tone purists.

The best Vox I have ever had

I have been using Vox amps, speciall different variations of the AC30 model. I have managed to score a Vox 50th Anniversary AC30HH and it's mathinc VOX212H cab (with Alnico Blue speakers) recently and I can proudly say that this is the best amp I have ever had. It has more than the typical Vox chime. The top boost channel has that iconic roar but the other "EF86 channel" is where the real magic is at. In triode mode you have a lot of clean headroom and the bass shift makes it wonderful, kicks bigger than any clean Fender amp I have tried so far. In pentode mode it is a true vintage rock and roll beast, crank it to get to Peter Green/early-Eric Clapton territory. If you like the band Jet, you would dig this amp as Nic Cester was rocking with the same model. For those instant Black Crowes tones just plug into the top boost side. Rich Robinson uses this head for good reason. It's a piece of an art in the inside as well if you take a look. Highly recommended if you can still find one.

Rich Robinson also uses a 50th Anniversary Vox AC30HH for smaller venues. According to Robinson’s tech, (28:57) it’s a “a hand-wired Vox. Brand new. He really likes the sound of the EL84's and the EL34's together, just has really nice blend. We keep both of them on all the time. You know our sound guy probably does a little mixing during solos between the both of them, but it's...the whole sound is really both of these amps.”
