Critic Reviews

Yamaha APX600 Thinline Acoustic Guitar Review | The Budget Guitarist

budgetguitarist.com

The Yamaha APX600 offers a solid value and impressive plug-in performance, appealing to electric guitarists seeking a lightweight acoustic option. With low action and a user-friendly design, it shines on stage and features a decent pickup system. However, its acoustic sound falls short, lacking depth and fullness compared to traditional models. The high action out of the box and minor cosmetic flaws can be off-putting, requiring some setup work. While it’s a decent choice for gigging musicians who prioritize amplification, players seeking an authentic acoustic experience may want to look elsewhere.

Reviewed: Yamaha APX 600 acoustic guitar - Mixdown Magazine

mixdownmag.com.au

Yamaha’s APX600 delivers a surprisingly robust acoustic tone, thanks to its improved bracing and larger bottom end, making it a delightful upgrade from its predecessor. The comfortable satin neck and classic cutaway design enhance playability, while the versatile Piezo pickup system caters well to both acoustic and amplified settings. However, some may find the thinline body less appealing for traditionalists seeking a fuller acoustic experience. Overall, it shines as a solid, affordable choice for players ranging from beginners to pros, though it may not satisfy those yearning for a more conventional acoustic sound.

Yamaha APX600 Review: Is This Thinbody Acoustic Worth the Price? - Produce Like A Pro

producelikeapro.com

The Yamaha APX600 stands out as an exceptional value in the acoustic-electric realm, offering electric playability at an attractive price point. Its thin body and comfortable design make it perfect for electric players transitioning to acoustic. The built-in preamp ensures a natural amplified sound, while features like the onboard tuner and mobile app access add to its appeal. However, the trade-off comes in the form of less depth in its unplugged sound compared to traditional acoustics, making it less ideal for those seeking rich, acoustic tones. Overall, the APX600 is a solid workhorse for gigging musicians but may leave purists wanting more.

“Junior”. Fishmans, Old Violin Finish

My daily player for sure. As a country guitarist I’ve always been more partial to an acoustic and this is perfect for me. Lightweight for being onstage, great tone, tuners are perfect (I have literally travelled miles with only a gig bag and it’s been perfectly in tune) and a genuinely beautiful guitar. Could not recommend any more especially within the price range it’s in.

A perfect starter guitar!

This is the first guitar I bought with my own money, and it lasted me several years, from learning basics to live performances and recordings of my own music several years later. It's versatile, a great quality for the price, and no issues with cheap materials or anything like that became an obstacle for me through the beginning stages of guitar playing. A friend of mine who had the same guitar had similar things to say about it. It was tragically broken in a freak accident, so I'm on the market for another acoustic, but the APX600 gave me a high standard to seek out moving forward. Would've played it for several more years if I could've.

It's a bit more than some of the absolute cheapest acoustics on the market, but the slightly higher price is more than made up for in build quality and ease of playing. Amazing beginner-friendly guitar, but equally as good for a songwriter, an already-experienced musician looking to get a different instrument to learn, or anyone looking for a guitar in this price range.
