Fender American Vintage '52 Telecaster review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Fender American Vintage '52 Telecaster reissue is a love letter to classic design, delivering authentic specs with modern wiring. Its build quality is top-notch, and it captures the vintage '52 Tele sound with phenomenal accuracy. Players will appreciate the dark bridge pickup and the warm twang of the neck pickup. However, the hefty U-shaped neck might not be for everyone, and some may find this guitar tougher to play compared to more modern models. Overall, it's a rewarding investment for those willing to embrace its vintage charm and character.

What Else

I have a staggered pickup in mine. Made from swamp ash, very light. A bit different from other tele's, doesn't really "Twang" much.

jimmarchi1

old 50s teles really run the gamut from gentle twang to almost les paul jr type sounds... it was really the early stagger pickups in the late 50s teles that brought the twang in a serious way.... all of those old fender pickup variations are killer... I have a broadcaster style flat pole that's hot and thick in one of my teles and the other one has a really underwound early stagger that twangs and chimes really well in that alder body... the alder, steel saddle and staggered bridge pickup combo brings maximu country twang.... the early specs are definitely rounder and sound more "rock"

Jake Xerxes Fussell describes his 1976 telecaster in this interview with Fretboard Journal

"JXF: Yeah, this is the Telecaster, which is due for a trip to the shop. [laughter] It’s a 1976 with an Ash body and I’ve been playing it for, gosh, 10, 11 years, something like that. Maybe 12.

CK: You’ve obviously played the shit out of it… it even looks like it could’ve been in a fire.

JXF: Yeah, I don’t know. The guy who had it before me played the hell out of it. It was a gift from JD Mark’s family when he died. We played country music together and stuff when we lived in Mississippi. His family gave several of his guitars away to friends who played music with him. I got one and I think Jack Yarber of The Oblivians got another."

For a long time I’ve been playing a guitar built by a friend, Tim Jorgensen, [as his class project in the Minnesota State College-Southeast Tech’s Guitar Repair and Building program]. It looks like a ’50s Tele, with a U neck – pretty large. When I picked it up, it was like, “Oh, man this thing’s great!”
