Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Behringer DeepMind 6.

Features and functionality

  • The synth's effects routing allows for creative uses like feedback loop effects, including shimmer reverb, which can be modulated for added versatility.

    Source
  • The DeepMind 6's single DCO and pulse-wave sub-oscillator configuration can limit detuned sawtooth brass sounds, as polyphony drops when stacking voices.

    Source
  • Adjustable envelope slopes and various mod destinations offer users creative sound design possibilities.

    Source
  • The DeepMind 6 has a complex effects section that is easier to edit using an app, despite the app no longer being supported on current iOS versions.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • For those focused solely on Juno-style sounds, the DeepMind 6 suffices, but those needing broader sound design should consider alternatives like the DeepMind 12.

    Source
  • The DeepMind 6 is better suited for standalone Juno-like sounds, while more complex polyphonic requirements might benefit from a larger polyphonic setup.

    Source
  • The DeepMind 6 excels in creating electric keys, organ, bass, and lead sounds but struggles with lush pads.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Nord 2x offers a multitimbral feature, allowing the stacking of up to four patches for more complex soundscapes, which the DeepMind 6 lacks.

    Source
  • The DeepMind 6 is noted for its 80's vintage sound quality, with analog filters that can self-oscillate, unlike the Nord's digital sound.

    Source
  • While considered less "punchy" than synths like the Prophet 08 or Super 6, the DeepMind 12 is noted for its usability and unique sound.

    Source
  • Compared to the Juno/Jupiter X and Hydrasynth, the DeepMind 6's screen and GUI are less intuitive and visually appealing.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users report that the keybed, while sturdy with decent aftertouch, could benefit from stronger springs to avoid a clunky bottom-out sound.

    Source
  • The synth's sound has been described as "thin" but works well in mixes, making it a "team player" synth.

    Source
  • Owners find the DeepMind 6 intuitive for patch development due to its dedicated sliders and button combinations that minimize complex menu navigation.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Users recommend installing Jorb's Juno-106 factory presets, which fit well into the 1024 available patch slots without overwriting too many existing ones.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Calibration is essential for optimal sound, requiring a full cycle run to ensure settings are saved and synth remains in tune.

    Source

Build quality

  • The DeepMind 6 features a full steel chassis and casing, providing a robust and almost tank-like build quality.

    Source
  • The screen on the DeepMind 6 is described as dim and flickering, requiring specific viewing angles, which detracts from the user interface experience.

Critic Reviews

Behringer’s Deepmind 6: Convoluted or Nestled in Consciousness | insounder.org

insounder.org

The Behringer DeepMind 6 offers an impressive blend of analog and digital synthesis, making it a versatile tool for musicians. Its full metal construction, semi-weighted keyboard, and extensive modulation capabilities make it a standout in its class. The synth's plethora of effects and mod matrix allow for deep sound exploration, though beginners might find its interface initially overwhelming. With two DCOs and robust mod options, it's a playground for sound designers, although some may wish for more oscillator variety. Overall, it's a solid and affordable choice for those looking to dive into synthesis.

Easy on the wallet, great for my production

ive read people complaining about it saying "It sounds bad,i dont like the patches." .....well..... MAKE YOUR OWN PATCHES! like you are kind of supposed to. synth is only as good as its programmer............. ain't no shame in downloading patches either. I did just to get these default JUNO 60 patches this guy made on the DM6 that are soooooo damn close. i just wanted them because i wanted patches that right off the bat have that familiarity to the 80s he made damn near every patch the juno 60 had that was apart of that 80s vibe. i just add some Tal Chorus, maybe my vintage phase or maybe dial in the res and cuttoff a bit for a variance in timbre and bam. I read another review on here the said they should of gotten the DM12. well i started liking my DM6 so much ive said the same thing a bunch of times in my studio. "damn.. i should of gotten the DM12.." dm6 is amazing but the DM12 u just get more voices for chording stacked oscillators. (steady looking around for dm12 in my price range)

Awesome

This synth is a powerhouse I was looking for a dedecated Analog synth for Bass patchs and this synth came to mind it was a choice between the Korg minilogue and the Deepmind 6 the Deepmind 6 won by far this synth delivers on the bass front royally. the added multi effects engine is the iceing on the cake, iam never lost for ideas for being able to create new or established Bass patchs and they are fat as well and what's great is that it's a poly synth as well, well worth the coin, loving it.

Easy to use and sounds amazing

I wish I had a 12 because multivoice patches sound amazing on this thing. It's got a lot of capability. Minimal amount of menus, most of which are accessed quickly through buttons on the synth. It is very good for leads and pads in my opinion. Okay for basslines. It has a great arpeggiator with a lot of options.
