Description

Catalinbread Naga Viper is a dynamic boost effects pedal that follows in the rich tradition of the iconic Dallas Rangemaster "Treble-Booster". This pedal has been designed to provide that signature harmonic-laden rock tone, reminiscent of the legendary British guitarists like Tony Iommi, Brian May, and Marc Bolan.

A unique feature of the Naga Viper is its enhanced classic circuit, which includes two additional controls - the Range and Heat. Unlike the original Rangemaster that had a fixed gain and a singular boost control, the Range knob on the Naga Viper offers a continuous control that allows you to shift from a classic treble-boost to a full-range boost and anywhere in-between. The Heat knob provides control over the gain level saturation, giving you the freedom to dial in your perfect tone.

This pedal works best when placed after wah pedals and before fuzz and overdrives in your signal chain. Avoid placing any buffered pedals before the Naga Viper as it can impact the sound. Ideally, the Naga Viper should directly "see" your guitar pickups for the best response.

Key Features:

  • Enhanced version of the Dallas Rangemaster "Treble-Booster" circuit
  • Controls: Range, Boost, and Heat
  • Provides a range of boost from classic treble to full-range
  • Adjustable gain level saturation
  • Works best after wah pedals and before fuzz and overdrives
  • Power supply: 9 V battery or via 9 V DC power supply (not included)
  • Current consumption: 1 mA
  • Made in USA

Catalinbread Naga Viper Pedal Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Catalinbread Naga Viper pedal is a delightful homage to the classic Rangemaster treble booster, offering not just a faithful recreation but also expanded tonal versatility. Its simple controls—Boost, Range, and Heat—allow for nuanced sound shaping, making it ideal for both seasoned treble-boost users and newcomers. The pedal's ability to cut through mixes with a sharp, articulate overdrive while adding a touch of Marshall-like grit makes it a standout. However, the pedal can introduce some noise at higher Heat settings, which may not be desirable for all users. Overall, the Naga Viper is celebrated for its ability to push tube amps into dynamic overdrive, providing an excellent tool for guitarists seeking vintage-inspired tones with modern flexibility.
