Description

The JHS Clover is a versatile preamp/boost pedal inspired by Boss' legendary FA-1 FET Preamp from the '80s. This remarkable circuit, famously used by The Edge of U2, has been reinterpreted by JHS to offer even more dynamic control over your tone. Perfect for electric, acoustic, and bass players, the Clover is a comprehensive tone-shaping tool that will quickly become an essential part of your rig.

The Clover features four standard controls: Volume, Bass, Mids, and Treble, allowing you to cut or boost specific frequencies to suit your sound. The rotary switch offers three unique EQ settings: Full EQ, No Mid, and No EQ, offering flexibility in how you shape your tone. When set to No EQ, the Clover becomes a straight FET boost, perfect for pushing your amp over the edge.

For those who want to eliminate some of the lows for a tighter sound, there's a Low Cut dip switch on the side. In addition, the Clover features standard 1/4" input and output, as well as an XLR output, making it an excellent preamp for acoustic or bass guitars.

Beef up those clean tones.

This is terrific. It can be used as a clean boost, but I've instead opted to fatten up my cleaner parts. Especially when playing one note at a time picked riffs on clean settings it adds a lot of color and character. Might not be great for some, perfect for me.

This is a clone of the Boss FA-1 that The Edge of U2 used. I play a lot of U2 covers so this slotted in to the rig perfectly. Couldn't be more happy with it.

Awesome Preamp

The Clover is a very effective way to shape your tone. You can go very loud with the volume knob and it allows you to flow into the magic world of the edge of break up. I recommend using it as always-on with the full eq feature engaged because the high reactivity of the knobs allows you to create a basis for a very versatile sound.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Use it with a little pumped bass and pumped mid frequencies, treble at noon. The volume is a bit louder than main master without the pedal engaged. Obviously it is used as always on.
