Description
BAT Cold War is our take on the classic Rat circuit with the ability to select different op-amp chips and six clipping options. For this version, we've used NOS (new old stock) National Semiconductor LM208 (mil-spec LM308 version), and NOS Soviet UD1408A from 80th (Soviet reverse-engineered LM308 clone) operational amplifiers. You can explore different Rat voicing selecting between 6 clipping options: boost (op-amp clipping - very loud), soft (op-amp feedback loop) BS170 MOSFETs, soft NOS Soviet D9V Germanium diodes, hard Silicon 1N914 diodes (same as classic Rat), red LEDs (like Turbo Rat), and NOS Soviet D9V Germanium diodes.
Controls:
Distortion - the amount of drive. Filter - controls treble frequency response. Volume - effect output level. Op-Amp switch - a selection of two chips: West (LM208) and East (UD1408A). Mode switch - 6 clipping modes selection: Boost, Soft MOSFET, Soft Ge, Hard Si, Hard LED, and Hard Ge. LED brightness trimmer - placed on the PCB trimmer allows you to adjust the status LED brightness.

Probably the best bang for your buck RAT pedal in existence
So many options on this you will surely find the RAT you resonate with, and a RAT for every mood you could possibly be in. It's got FAT/Stock/Low switch (stock RAT, FAT RAT, Low RAT) low is great on bass, you can get a very mild fuzz when using this and soft germanium setting for the voicing. It's got an East/West switch true to its cold war name, so you can pick the type of diode the effect uses for amplification.
Preferred Settings + Usage:
Soft Germanium, East, Low, roll up distortion until you get just a hair of fuzz, ensure volume is correct and adjust again if needed. I love having just that bit of soft fuzz over the top, it's a very fun old school kind of sound
