Description

Add a touch of organic, three-dimensional quality to your rig with the Orange Amplifiers Kongpressor. This analog Class A compression pedal draws its inspiration from the world’s most iconic vintage optical studio units, employing a re-issued vactrol VTL5C3 optocoupler that was responsible for the sound heard on countless hit records.

The Kongpressor’s effect is transparent but somehow fattening at lower compression levels. It adds a glossy sheen to your core tone that you’ll miss when bypassed. Even at extreme settings, the tone remains musical with great feel under the fingers. With controls for attack and release time, the Kongpressor can be fine-tuned to the transients and the bloom. It has an internal charge pump that doubles the headroom of the unit, so however the dials are set, the compression tracks seamlessly and remains clean across its range. It also includes an active treble control for adding extra chime and jangle, making the compression even more transparent.

This pedal isn't just for crystal clean country picking; it maintains the bottom end that often gets lost in many compression pedals. This means it behaves impeccably with overdrive pedals or the lead channel of your amplifier, adding fullness and sustain.

Key Features:

  • Analog, Class A design for natural sounding compression
  • Optical circuit adds extra depth to your guitar or bass tone
  • Adjustable attack and release times for fine tuning of the bloom
  • Active chime control for adding and removing top-end sparkle
  • Up to 12dB of clean gain available for boosting the front of your amp
  • Internal charge pump doubles the operating voltage for more headroom
  • Transparent buffered bypass for maintaining tonal integrity even with long cable runs and large pedalboards

Orange Kongpressor review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Orange Kongpressor is a delightful beast that offers clean, natural compression with a dynamic response. With its innovative optical design and floating sidechain, it enhances your signal without overtly squashing it. The Chime knob adds a touch of sparkle, while the volume knob provides a significant boost, making it a versatile tool for any guitarist. Although it doesn't present any significant issues, potential buyers should note it lacks the radical envelope reshaping found in other models. Overall, this pedal squeezes out a positive performance, perfect for those seeking subtle yet effective compression.
