Pioneer DJ's DJS-1000: First Impressions Review - DJ TechTools

djtechtools.com

Pioneer's DJS-1000 is a DJ-friendly evolution of the Toraiz SP-16, boasting seamless integration with CDJ setups and an intuitive interface. It shines with features like sync and pitch control, making it a great tool for live performance and remixing. However, it falls short with limited sample time and fewer outputs compared to the SP-16, which may disappoint users seeking more flexibility. While easier to use, it demands time investment to unlock its full potential, positioning it as a refined, yet niche, addition to a DJ's arsenal.

Pioneer DJ DJS-1000 Standalone DJ Sampler Review - Digital DJ Tips

digitaldjtips.com

The Pioneer DJ DJS-1000 is a competent, DJ-friendly sampler and sequencer that repackages Toraiz SP-16's power into a familiar CDJ form. Its rigid pads, pitch fader, and touchstrip welcome innovation for live sets, but its complex workflow may alienate traditional DJs. While the DJS-1000 won't revolutionize DJ booths globally, its appeal to niche performers seeking live looping is undeniable. Yet, the intricate menu navigation and pattern sequencing could deter those craving simplicity. Pioneer DJ has crafted a tool that integrates well into existing setups but may not entice the mainstream DJ crowd.

Pioneer DJ DJS-1000 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Pioneer DJS-1000 is a standout sampler bridging the DJ and studio worlds with ease. Its intuitive interface, familiar to SP-16 users, makes it ideal for live performances, providing 16 channels with versatile pad controls and a step sequencer. Pros include a well-designed interface and user-friendly operation, but the lack of reverb at the track level and non-assignable secondary output are drawbacks. While studio depth is limited compared to competitors like Akai MPC Live, the DJS-1000 excels in live settings with features like Live Sample. It's a top choice for DJs seeking interactivity without complexity.

Pioneer DJS-1000 Review & Performance - We Are Crossfader

wearecrossfader.co.uk

The Pioneer DJS-1000 impresses with its robust build and integration into Pioneer’s club setup, offering an intuitive interface for DJs familiar with music production. Its standout features include live sampling, a versatile touch strip, and a comprehensive effects suite, making it a fun and dynamic addition to any DJ setup. However, it's not beginner-friendly and serves better as a supplementary tool rather than a standalone unit. While it excels in enhancing live performances, its complexity may overwhelm those new to music production. For seasoned DJs, it's a compelling piece of gear to expand creative possibilities.

Versatile Standalone Performer

The DJS-1000 has become a key part of my DJ live sets and is great for live performances. The pads are accurate and have a tight but forgiving feel. The Tempo slider is the same as the CDJ but adds two 'nudge' buttons to fine tune. I use this in 4 distinct modes. 1. A step sequencer - samples can be added from USB and 16 parts can be stepped into a sequence of 2,4, or 8 bars. In a single project you can have up to 4 patterns of any combo. 2. A performance sampler - triggering the pads indvidually lets me add richness and saturation to a track that needs that little something extra. 3. A Sampler-Sequencer that lets me sample up to 32-seconds of a track, for immediate replay. This feature makes this essentially another CDJ where i can mix out of a track, let the sample spin, and mix into a different track while that sample plays. 4. An effects filter- I can add filters and sound color to any or all parts of each of the sounds being played. For performance this is great because as I turn knobs for pitch or crush my audience sees me interacting live with a sound and adds engagement. The only drawback to this unit is to keep it in SYNC mode, i also have to SYNC my other decks. For dynamic DJing this creates a tough workflow. Ableton LINK combined with Rekordbox 6 now allows this unit to SYNC using Rekordbox in HID mode (USB connect). It's notchy but it works. I love the DJS-1000 and see keeping it around for years to come.
