Description

The Epiphone EA-255 Electric Guitar stands as a testament to the evolution of semi-hollowbody instruments, seamlessly blending vintage appeal with modern craftsmanship. Originally succeeding the EA-250, this guitar was part of Epiphone's innovative leap forward after their production transitioned to Japan in the early 1970s. A notable feature of the EA-255 is its unique 25.5" scale length, which sets it apart from the more traditional Gibson scale, offering a playing experience akin to that of a Fender. This distinct scale length provides added tension and clarity, making it an ideal choice for players who crave definition in their tone.

The EA-255 boasts a semi-hollow design, delivering rich, resonant sounds that marry well with its classic double-cutaway body, providing both aesthetic appeal and ergonomic comfort. Its gold hardware not only enhances its visual allure but also ensures durability and reliability. Whether you're performing on stage or recording in the studio, this guitar promises a versatile sonic palette, from warm, jazzy tones to bright, articulate leads.

With its blend of history and innovation, the Epiphone EA-255 is more than just a guitar; it's a bridge between eras, ready to accompany musicians on their creative journeys.

1970s Epiphone EA255 - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Epiphone EA-255, a vintage find from the late '70s, is a mixed bag. While the guitar features cool elements like a Frequensator tailpiece and gold-plated Grover tuners, it requires some TLC. Signs of neglect like corroded hardware and wiring issues are red flags. However, after some affordable repair work, it transforms into a playable, semi-hollowbody with a unique sound and spank. Not a collector's dream, but a potential gem for those willing to put in the effort. It's a gamble, but one that might pay off for the right player.

Underrated Gem

This (again) belonged to my Dad before I claimed it as my own and ran away. It's not a very sought after instrument and the one I have has had the bridge and tailpiece replaced. It does however produce those sweet, resonant and defined notes you'd expect from a vintage hollow body and it still bests a lot of your £4,000 brand new Gibsons. Not bad for an old axe...

In this photo, Dann Gallucci can be seen playing an Epiphone EA-255 Electric Guitar. The guitar can easily be identified by its Frequensator tailpiece. The year of Dann's EA-255 is not known, but it can be assumed to be between 1976 and 1979, since those were the years the EA-255 was made. Gallucci also appears to have removed the pickguard from the guitar. The photo was taken at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles in May 2013 during a Cold War Kids performance.
