Description
Fender Duo-Sonic Electric Guitar is a contemporary version of the classic that started it all back in 1956. Designed with the modern musician in mind, it provides a perfect blend of the past and the present. Initially launched as a student-level guitar, the Duo-Sonic soon won the hearts of musicians from various genres due to its versatility and unique sound.
The Duo-Sonic is not only stylish but also surprisingly hip, sporting an alder body with a comfortable C-shaped maple neck. The maple fretboard features a 24" scale length which is perfect for smaller hands or for those who prefer a slinky feel. It comes equipped with two Duo-Sonic single-coil pickups, delivering the classic Fender clean tones that can be dialed up to a growl when needed.
This guitar is not just for beginners; it's a favorite among professionals too. With its shorter scale length, the Duo-Sonic offers easy chording and extended string bends. The back of the neck features a satin polyurethane finish, providing a fast and smooth feel from the get-go. So, whether you're a beginner or an expert, the Fender Player Duo-Sonic Electric Guitar has a lot to offer and is ready to become your reliable mainstay.

Comparisons

Compared to the Fender Mustang, it’s described as a "poor man’s" alternative with similar appeal, especially in daphne blue with a red pickguard.
Source -
It's noted that the middle pickup position sounds reminiscent of a Telecaster, providing a balanced sound distinct from the extremes of the bridge and neck settings.

Owners who find standard Fender necks cumbersome may prefer the Duo-Sonic's short scale, although some report challenges with chords higher up the neck.

A underrated gem of a guitar
I own a partscaster clone of the early ash bodied 1956 Duo Sonic. It's an exact replica of the original 1956 Duo Sonic and even has the gold anodized aluminum pickguard. However unlike the original Duo Sonic my clone has nickel hardware and Zexcoil pickups. I use the Zexcoil Z-Core 5 Vintage Underwound pickup at the neck and Z-Core 5 Vintage Hot pickup at the bridge. I use the Rutters La Burrito 3-saddle bridge in it with compensated brass saddles and the tuning duties are handled by Kluson Supreme tuners.
Back when I assembled this guitar those MIM Offset Series Fender Duo Sonic guitars weren't released by Fender and I was unwilling to hunt for an original vintage 1956 Duo Sonic guitar.
It's a great sounding guitar and it sounds excellent though my Fender Hot Rod Deville. Its short scale makes bending notes almost effortless, and it has a rock solid tuning stability.

Its a snazzy axe
I got myself a B-stock HS one in black newish for £299 best buy of my life the easy to play short-scale length is good as mine was an older one with rosewood not pau ferro it feels familiar and good but the pickups were a little weak so being a HS i put my favourite EMG 81 for bridge and went for an EMG S single coil for the neck and wired them with some nice active circuitry magic and this thing is a shredding beast and because of the short scale I run it with 11s which is my rhythm strings and they feel like 10s

In a similar manner to his use of the J-160E to dredge up a very specific sound, while tracking Horror Bartees trusted instruments that could bring to life the things he was hearing in his head. Several tracks were written on bass — among them Hit It Quit It and Loop Defenders — and the approach there was very much to bring out gut-level low end. “I played bass on probably half the songs using a ‘67 Duo-Sonic,” Bartees says. “It’s just one little single coil pickup and it’s got flats on it. It’s ugly and bumpy, which is kind of the spirit of the record.”

Mihara Kenji can be seen playing a sunburst Fender duo-sonic in both the “Oddloop” and “Owarase Night” music videos.
