Great price to value ratio
Great center image & depth (mind blowing if you consider the price point). Very punchy sound too. Fun monitors without having much of a V curve to it.
As a heads up, the port does chuff a lot at higher playback volumes (common in budget monitors that utilize vents/ports of any kind), and the bass is quite lacking at lower playback volumes. I find my playback volume with the Alpha 50s has to be around 77-81dBC SPL to feel like everything is balanced across the frequency spectrum (I like to have slightly quieter monitoring levels: 74-77dBC SPL for writing & 69-72dBC SPL for mixing/mastering/chilling). Accurate bass translation & quiet monitoring levels are a big deal to me, so consider that when reading my criticisms about the Alpha 50s.
If you're in the market for $500-$750 studio monitor pairs, I'd strongly suggest looking into the Alpha 50s. They are pricier than their main competition (e.g. Yamaha HS5 & KRK Rokit 5), but I think they're worth it & the best of the bunch.

Not 'prosumer' but professional studio monitors
auditioned these extensively and A/B'd them against many other speakers in their price range at various music stores for months prior to purchase.
; these are the company's bottom of the line monitors which (IMHO) beat the pants off of so many other more expensive monitors, and anything in their price range. Bass is tight, never overpowering. Balanced across the audio spectrum and articulate is how I would summarize their sonic qualities.Feel like they are overbuilt, but only time will tell of this is true. Large for 5" speakers, and might fit (with difficulty) on your desk, as is the case with me. The auto turn-off and turn-on is wonderful. Additional rca inputs and +6db input signal adjustment are welcome features. Download the manual and read more from their website regarding additional details.Provided HPF and LPF crossovers work like a charm for most less than perfect nearfield monitor ing environments.
I haven't had these for a long time yet; but I still feel confident in recommending these studio monitors without hesitation. They ARE more expensive, and Focal doesn't discount their products, which you must remember. At least in this case, you get what you pay for.

Tailored to my ears
For the last 3 months, I tried to find the perfect set of monitors, and I think I´ve found them; At least for my ears. I´ve compared them to the Yamaha HS Series, the KRK Rokit, the JBL LSR, Adam F5, Mackie (forgot the model) and they´re all great (except for the KRK to be totally honest), but the Focal just sounded so much clearer and balanced. I recommend listening to them and making up your own opinion as monitors in general are a pretty personal companion.
