Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Hotone Ampero II Stomp.

Comparisons

  • The Ampero II Stomp's delays and reverbs are generally less refined than the Line 6 HX Stomp, except for the Cloud reverb, which outperforms the HX in this aspect.

    Source
  • Tone captures on the Ampero II Stomp are less precise than those on the Hotone Stage and NAM software, often requiring EQ adjustments for desired tone similarity.

    Source
  • Unlike the MOOER GE200, the Ampero II Stomp lacks well-known model captures like the Krankenstein sound preferred for Pantera/90s metal.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Ampero II Stomp is noted for fitting more effect blocks and for its ease of navigation compared to HX units, offering a simpler user experience for backup setups.

    Source
  • The Ampero II Stomp is praised for its ability to effectively produce "clean tone being pushed" or "very mild overdrive" sounds, which many modelers struggle with.

    Source
  • The Tone Catch feature struggles with accurate amp captures, often sounding less open and midrangey compared to other software like NAM, yet still useful for gigging without a pedalboard.

    Source
  • The Ampero II Stomp and Ampero II differ in connectivity, with the Stomp offering fewer scene options per patch due to its reduced number of knobs.

    Source
  • Tone Catch allows for unique sound chains, including pedals, expanding versatility beyond capturing just amp profiles.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users report a persistent dry signal when using headphones, which affects perceived tone quality, particularly in non-high-gain settings.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • An expression pedal (EX-P) can be used with the Ampero II Stomp, though some report choppiness and sticking issues, particularly between 90% and 100% in the toe position.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The pedal is favored for live use due to its patch mode, allowing up to three presets per song and easy bank changes for diverse song transitions.

    Source
  • Despite imprecise captures, the Ampero II Stomp creates useful models for live shows, offering portability over lugging heavy amps, making it ideal for gigging musicians.

    Source
  • Captured tones, while not perfect replicas, can be EQ'd to closely resemble different amps, such as a Twin Reverb sounding like a Blues Jr., suitable for live performances.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Playback of captured tones is anticipated for future updates in the Ampero II Stomp, enhancing its usability with external sound profiles.

Critic Reviews

Review: Hotone Ampero II Stomp — AudioTechnology

audiotechnology.com

The Hotone Ampero II Stomp is a compact powerhouse, delivering impressive tonal versatility with a user-friendly interface and robust build quality. With 87 amp models and an extensive range of effects, it invites exploration and creativity. However, for players who rely heavily on real-time adjustments during performances, the footswitch setup may feel limiting and cumbersome. While it excels in studio settings and offers a solid looper function, the audio glitches when switching modes on stage can be distracting. Overall, it’s a strong contender for those looking to simplify their rig without sacrificing sound quality, but it may not satisfy every live performance need.

Better than the HX stomp in every way.

Not sure why this unit and brand aren’t more popular. Sounds excellent when using the pre amp blocks with cabs and IR off into the return of your favorite amp.
