Critic Reviews

JAM Red Muck review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The JAM Pedals Red Muck delivers a rich palette of fuzz and distortion tones true to its Big Muff heritage, blending elements from the '71 'triangle' Muff and the Russian Red Army/Civil War Muffs. This pedal excels in providing a range of smooth, sustaining distortion while still being compact enough for any pedalboard. Although its price tag is on the higher side, its versatile tonal range, from smooth Gilmour-esque tones to gritty fuzz, makes it a worthwhile investment for fuzz enthusiasts seeking both classic and flexible sounds.

“Jam pedals inspire.. they show you new avenues to explore. I love pedals that have a strong personality – that somehow take the pressure off me and cause the guitar to become the boss.the results are usually far more interesting than relying on my own will. Red muck has the “it’s gonna get crazy If I push that” button. I love that it feels dangerous to step on a button that will wreak havoc and take the control from me and into the hands of a small metal box full of wires. I don’t always like to be in control.. jam pedals satisfy the need to relinquish control – to just jump out of the norm without a parachute.”

Used both live and in studio, Sid owned this pedal and it sees most use during the Cruel Knives as Sid moved to a more fuzz based tone. The pedal is based on the 71 “triangle” and the later “Red Army / Civil War” Muffs, so it is more of a fuzzy distortion, perfect for Sid's riff based playing style and tone layering. The pedal was seen during recordings, home and stage use. Sid changed the Gain knob.
