Guitar Overdrive Pedal Shootout: Joyo Crunch Distortion Review - The Blogging Musician

adamharkus.com

The Joyo Crunch Distortion impresses with its rich, dynamic tones and solid build, earning its "Marshall in a Box" moniker. It's a budget-friendly option that delivers powerful, organic sound, especially with guitar volume maxed. However, its Achilles' heel is the loss of clarity when the guitar volume is reduced, leading to a muddy tone. While a treble booster can mitigate this issue, it complicates setups for those seeking simplicity. For players who keep their volume at ten, it's a standout choice; for others, it might require additional gear to shine.

Over the top but overall a good sound

I bought this pedal because i wanted to play Van Halen. This pedal has a good crunch sound. The only con is that you have to be easy on the controls, because it can be too loud very quick. The distortion is strong enough to combine with my flanger and i am very satisfied with the sounds i get out of this pedal, especially for 30 bucks!

Great tone and chrunch for some amps - but not others

Works great on EL34 valves such as Marshall amps, not so great with 6V6 valves as used in fender amps. Volume is a bit loud, but as the gain works very differently with different valve types it's worth a giving it a go.

Great for small setups

This pedal can do well for small events (e.g bar gigs).
