K+H O 300D & Pro C28

soundonsound.com

The K+H O300D studio monitors defy their small size with a massive, accurate sound and deep bass, making them ideal for nearfield monitoring. Their three-way design ensures remarkable mid-range clarity, while the compact build and comprehensive EQ options provide flexibility. However, the digital input's necessity is questionable, and the Pro C28 controller, though enhancing bass precision, offers limited sample rate compatibility and steep pricing, making it less appealing for significant improvements. Despite these drawbacks, the O300D remains a standout choice for its sound quality and compact design.

Field Test: Klein + Hummel O 300 Studio Monitors

mixonline.com

The Klein + Hummel O 300 Studio Monitors are a standout in studio audio equipment, offering exceptional transparency and depth for professional mixing. With a tri-amped design and precise room correction features, they deliver an uncolored, natural response that enhances mix clarity. Their ability to reveal minute sound details makes them excellent for both mixing and tracking, while the rear panel EQ options effectively compensate for room acoustics. However, the monitors may require additional EQ adjustments for optimal bass response when placed near walls. Despite their high price tag of $6,995 per pair, they are considered a top-tier investment for serious sound engineers.

We wanted a large control room, to host most of our keyboard instruments, but not too large either. We could choose from around 20 keyboards, always ready to use, connected to a 16-input Speck X-Sum, used as a line mixer, and place them as we wanted. There's an analogue console in the middle, a 28-channel Trident T24, and Acoustic Energy AE1, K+H O300 and Auratone speakers. No large speakers, we don't need them. Huge windows at the rear give us natural light, there's wood everywhere, and the acoustic is dry.”
