Description

The original Ibanez Tube Screamer made history, and Keeley's TS9 Mod Plus will have you making tonal history of your own. Used by guitarists including The Edge (U2), Peter Frampton, Jon Herrington (Steely Dan), and Larry Crane (John Mellencamp band), the TS9 Mod Plus has a number of enhancements over the original that give it a sound closer to the Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer.

Keeley Effects use the Texas Instruments RC4558P chip, just like early Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamers. Additional mods include replacing the carbon-composite output resistors with metal-film types that don't introduce noise to the signal and increasing the bass response for full low-end richness, and increasing the overdrive range. The result is a cleaner sound when turned down, twice the gain and drive when cranked, and stock TS808 sounds in between. The bypass circuitry was also improved, as well as the tone control circuit.

The legendary Tube Screamer taken to the edge of tonal Nirvana!

Better than original TS9

I have a Keely Mod Plus TS9. 1. There is really less noise than in original one. When you turn on several dirty pedals - it has more noise. So Keely mod is better to use with other dirty pedals. 2. Bass exists! I see it still cut bass a bit - but now you can play riffs with Keeley Mod 3. Drive range is from transparent to a lot of gain =) And all these options with these big amount of mid range as original TS9 has.

So I really recommend this variant as more musical due to original TS9.

This is always in my pedalboard

Perfect boost pedal to drive the tubes to give you great sustain for leads, and boosts mids to help cut through the mix. The Keeley mod makes it smooth and gives the real vintage tones of an old 808

Exploring diverse overdrive and distortion sounds

Ended up doing the exact opposite of what I said. Now I'm using the Keeley TS9, J&H, and the Hardwire distortion. Sounds good to me and now I have 4 different OD/ distortions to play around with.

May I ask why? I've always been curious about the Keeleys.

eryeager

It's a great pedal. But honestly that 40 dollar danelectro drive pedal can do anything this can plus more. It is essentially a very expensive boost for my purposes.

T

great boost

great as a blues overdrive or to push a crunchy amp into high gain

"I have a ’90s Ibanez TS9 and an Ibanez TS808 modified by Robert Keeley that I use as a boost. I also used a Jim Dunlop Crybaby wah on “Heavy Heart” and a T-Rex Tremster tremolo on “Going Home.” I don’t use a lot of effects, mostly because no matter how many different things I try, I always come out sounding the same."
