A key ingredient in the Motown sound
Often known as "Jamerson flats" for their association to James Jamerson and his contemporaries (such as Duck Dunn), the 760M is a key ingredient in the Motown sound. These strings are built “like they used to make ’em” — they are thick, heavy, and have very high string tension, which works well with a string mute for creating the classic p-bass sound of that era.
They are best played finger-style and excel for creating ghost notes due to their percussive thump. Don't expect to be doing bends or getting great harmonics. These strings are for players who want to hang in the pocket and groove.
A word of caution—the tight string tension provides a much stiffer feel compared to modern flats, which can be challenging for beginners and may cause neck bow on a bass with a thinner Jazz-style neck. I'd recommend only using these strings on a bass with a neck that is wider than 1.5" at the nut.
Artist usage
Add artist
The strings were as much a part of his sound as the bass itself and the Labella as pictured strings were his favorite as James Jamerson also. Many knew Duck always said “don’t ever change the strings” which he never would unless he broke one then he would put a new set on.
Flat wound strings unlike round wound strings have a lot longer life expectancy as the tone remains the same.
