Description
The Magnatone Stereo Twilighter is the embodiment of classic guitar tone, bringing together the richness of stereo vibrato and tremolo that's hard to match. Built on the authentic Magnatone varistor vibrato circuit, its distinctive sounds have been imitated but never quite replicated.
This combo amplifier is a powerhouse, driving a pair of custom 12" speakers with 22 watts of Class AB amplification each. Its fast and detailed response makes it an ideal companion for your pedals. The Twilighter Stereo is as versatile as it is powerful, with dual speaker outputs and line-level DI outputs making it a solid foundation for any guitar rig.
The Magnatone vibrato and tremolo, designed in the late '50s, are legendary. This circuit, now updated for maximum reliability, allows for a wide range of effects, from slow modulation to fast shimmer. You can switch between vibrato and tremolo modes and control the modulation speed with an external expression pedal.
The Twilighter Stereo combo also features a true tube-driven spring reverb for that classic '50s-'60s guitar tone. The four-spring reverb tank with counterwound springs delivers a clear and spacious sound, even at high reverb levels.

In this video at various points before the Strokes begin to play (53:16 for example) you can see that Valensi has his two Magnatone Stereo amplifiers. You can see the distinct big font name on the amps front face as well as the two gold chevrons at the bottom right corner of the grille cloth. Nick has been using these since this show but has since swapped one Magnatone for the Roland Jazz Chorus amplifier for their 2020 - present live tour. Also listed on the Magnatone USA website as a user of this amplifier. Source: https://www.magnatoneusa.com/MagnatoneArtist/NICK-VALENSI
Seen playing a Stereo Twilighter during the 'Be Still' live promo video for Dodge and Burn. The front markings of the Stereo Twilighter can be first seen at 0:17.
I also have a Magnatone Twilighter Stereo amp I used for a lot of the clean stuff. With that, I just plugged in direct; it’s got the best reverb sound in the world.
Neil Finn is confirmed to use the Magnatone Stereo Twilighter, as it was seen during the Gravity Stairs tour in 2024. Additionally, this amplifier was shown and explained in detail during a 2022 gear rig tour by That Pedal Show on YouTube, where Neil Finn's equipment was thoroughly examined. Discussion of the Magnatone Stereo Twilighter starts around 12 minutes into the video.
