Description

The RL 944K by MusikElektronic Geithain made in Germany is a 3-way coaxial system with cardioid bass directional characteristic The RL944K is a specialist for small rooms and short listening distances. It is therefore aimed at professional users in OB vans, small sound, film and television studios, as well as ambitious music lovers who do not want to make any compromises, even in small living spaces.

The RL944K is a specialist for small rooms and short listening distances. It is therefore aimed at professional users in OB vans, small sound, film and television studios, as well as ambitious music lovers who do not want to make any compromises, even in small living spaces.

The cardioid radiation characteristic in the range from 35 to 250 Hz minimizes reflections on the walls behind the loudspeaker. There is also the option of additionally adapting the transmission path to the acoustic conditions of the playback room and the installation conditions using an analogue location adaptation filter.

The speaker's radiation characteristics are optimised for listening distances of 1 to 2.60 m. In the bass, a very linear 200 mm long-throw woofer system works in a bass cardioid housing, which offers excellent impulse reproduction. Its special design enables deep bass reproduction that one would not think possible in such a compact housing. The RL944K is therefore a real broadband speaker and there is no need for an additional subwoofer, especially in OB vans. The 100 mm midrange system is arranged coaxially in front of the woofer system together with the 19 mm tweeter dome, thus allowing precise control of the degree of bundling. The result is a realistic and stable spatial sound image around the listening position, high homogeneity and the lowest possible discoloration. Through consistent optimization for short listening distances, the RL944K enables realistic depth gradation even in OB vans and makes correct microphone placement much easier. This makes the RL944K a precision tool that allows you to work without fatigue even after hours.

The three-channel MOSFET power amplifier with electronic crossover is integrated into the rear of the housing and can be swung out for servicing purposes. When the overload limit is reached, an intermittently lit LED signals that the output level is reduced by 20 dB. If the maximum level is exceeded, the output level is reduced by 20 dB to protect the components from overload.

The RL944K1 is a more compact housing variant of the RL944K, which, thanks to the external amplifier, can be used wherever space is particularly limited. Be it in a video wall or an OB van. As an alternative to the standard MOSFET amplifier in an upright housing, the 19-inch Class D amplifier RL-Amplifier can also be used. Various special stands and brackets are available as accessories; corresponding fastening elements are integrated into the loudspeaker housing. Geithain RL944K

Geithain's RL944K active monitors showcase innovative features, particularly their unique cardioid low-frequency response, which minimizes room interactions and offers consistent bass performance. While they deliver impressive dynamics and detail, some users may find the stereo imaging slightly lacking in depth, and there's a hint of tonal coloration in certain vocals. However, these minor drawbacks do not overshadow the overall high quality and engineering prowess of these monitors. At a price point near £8,000, the RL944K stands out in the nearfield monitor market and is undoubtedly worth a listen for serious producers.
