Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Monster DNA On-Ear Headphones.

Build quality

  • The leather on the ear cups tends to decompress after about an hour, leading to discomfort as the plastic begins to press against the ears.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Despite potential sound quality issues, the unique art and aesthetic design of these headphones are highly valued by owners.

    Source
  • Despite some negative opinions, the headphones are perceived to offer a more cinematic experience when paired with a 30Hz monitor or TV for gaming and media consumption.

    Source
  • The market has largely shifted away from on-ear headphones with folding features, favoring flat-folding ear cups instead.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Given their promotional nature, these headphones are difficult to find and often sought after for their distinctive visual appeal rather than audio performance.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Custom vinyl skins can be used to replicate the unique look; choosing angular headphones with flat surfaces can ease the installation process.

    Source
  • Modding Koss KSC75 or PortaPro headphones is a suggested approach to achieve a more customized, ideal setup for on-ear preferences.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Owners find these headphones superior to Beats Solo HD, yet note they don't match the performance of higher-end models like Sennheiser HD 598 or Audio-Technica M50x.

    Source
  • The Sennheiser HD 25 is noted for its sound quality but lacks the desired foldable design and detachable cable.

    Source
  • Koss PortaPros are recommended for portability but have non-detachable cables, contrasting with the Monster DNA's removable aux cable feature.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Multiple users agree that while the headphones are decent, they are overvalued at $199 MSRP, suggesting they are a better buy at discounted prices around $50-$70.

    Source

User experience

  • It’s noted that the headphones offer a muddy bass experience, lacking clarity, which might not satisfy audiophiles seeking precise sound profiles.

Great for getting a secondary mix sound

I use these headphones after I have my near final mix and see how they sound in other headphones that aren't fully studio but still aren't bad quality headphones. A perfect medium to see how most listeners will hear the music.
