Comparisons

    Source

User experience

    Source
  • Some owners describe experiencing significant tone-suck, affecting the overall sound quality when the pedal is engaged.

    Source
  • It's noted that the Shimverb was popular for a short period before appearing frequently on classified sites, suggesting widespread resale dissatisfaction.

    Source
  • It's been observed that the footswitch on Mooer pedals, including the Shimverb, can exhibit durability issues after a short period of use.

    Source
  • One owner reported dissatisfaction after using the Shimverb for just one gig, highlighting its potential to disappoint quickly in live settings.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Shimverb is noted to sound more "adequate" when used with synths, and can produce interesting sounds when combined with fuzz or pitch shifter pedals for guitar.

Gear Review: Mooer Audio ShimVerb Reverb Pedal | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Mooer Shimverb Reverb Pedal is a budget-friendly option with three modes: Room, Spring, and Shimmer. While Room and Spring are practical for traditional sounds, they can sometimes feel boxy or sterile. Shimmer, however, offers unique, spacey overtones but might not be for everyone. At $64, the pedal is compact and functional, serving well as a basic reverb solution for practice or gigs, despite not being the best on the market. Overall, it's a decent choice for those needing an affordable, small pedal for casual use.

Good reverb toy for the price

Probably is not the super high quality sound that you expect for any other kind of reverb, but for the price is fine. I put this pedal after a reverb signal from a Echosystem as a 'reverb layer' to shape a Hall or Spring effect, with 70-100% Decay and 50% Level on the Shimverb, on the wet-amp. I replaced a Hall of Fame 2 for this one, because I used only two effects on it and I use more the reverb from the Echosystem. So, if you search a quality shimmer, probably you would have to look anywhere else, unless you want something different, toy-sounding like. The shimmer sounds kind like a bit ring... digital traces... like a toy.

For the room and spring modes, it does nice, but the digital decay traces can be listened, if you want something more organic or real-simulated, this pedal is not for you.

The best thing of this pedal is that you can get a full wet mode at level 100%, that way you're able to do sound FXs, pads and so.

UPDATE: Probably a little late, but I'll tell you that if you feel dissapointed about this pedal, I encourage to give it a try by doing this.

The digital traces can be listened and that can be threated as a "reverb layer". Being said this, you can put this pedal before a delay or after a reverb with a little more processing quality. I think is about to have a variety of sounds and shape what actually we use.

The Mooer Shimverb - Shimmer mode, sounds better when this pedal is before the delay. Try it this way and you will notice a better blend with the general sound. If you have a expression pedal, control the feedback to push the shimmer intensity.

If you put this pedal before the delay, you will have space-ish tones.

With Keyboard (Casio LK-220)* https://soundcloud.com/lobbruno/mooer-shimverb-03

*Please note that the route is Casio>Shimverb(Shimmer)>Echosystem(Spring Reverb), so the Shimverb is almost on full Mix (at 90%) texturizing the sound and the Echosystem is providing the ambient and decay. Please note the Casio LK220 is an entry level keyboard.

Update Feb.17.2023 I recently got a Boss SD-1 and I watched a video on YT which remembered me about putting a reverb into the first spot on the pedal chain before Compressors, Overdrives and so. Then, this pedal fits nice for that specific function without spending too much, because the settings on the pedal are minimal.

Gets the job done

The Shimverb was the first reverb pedal I bought while constructing a pedalboard. I felt in terms of just 'normal' reverb, the Room reverb did the job well for mostly anything I did, always staying on whatever I was doing. I felt the shimmer did not really live up to the expectations of a pedal named Shimverb, sure it was a shimmer effect but I feel compared other shimmers out there you can get better, but I suppose for the price you cant really argue. I do think this pedal is great for those who are just getting into effects, especially reverb as there are only 3 types which doesnt overcomplicate things

despite how I feel with my personal experience with the shimmer, I do think the pedal is good.

Cheap, beautiful, and good

Very good quality-price Reverb, two effect functions that fulfill what is needed. The Shimmer is very good, the only downside is the small controls.

Great pedal!

I really like the sound this little fella provides, but I miss a dedicated knob for the shimmer. The other 2 modes (Room and Spring) are amazing, just the way they should be. Room mode is my favorite to use for pretty much every situation, and I like to use the Shimmer mode is my favorite to use when I'm experimenting different textures for my clean sounds.

Good reverb; not so good shimmer

Good reverb, but the shimmer lacks musicality. The spring reverb have a mellow sound, less piercing than the Fender '65 Reverb. The shimmer sounds closer to a fifth than to an octave. Inspired in the Strymon Blue Sky.

jimmarchi1

and the blue sky was inspired by Bryan eno who used an Eventide H3000 into a reverb to produce what he dubbed 'shimmer verb' in the 80s, most notably with U2... the shimmer verb doesn't have to have an octave up, depending on the song sometimes it could be a 5th or other harmonies depending on the song

lucianorg

Great Info jimmarchi1!

lobberuno

Give it a try putting the Shimverb before the delay or a reverb, it reacts completely different.

sergiomodernist79

It sounds a bit fake

THE REVERB ISN'T SO BAD (SPRING MODE THE BEST), BUT IT SOUNDS A BIT FAKE. I DON'T LIKE THE SHIM AT ALL.

lobberuno

Maybe you could give it a try putting this pedal before the delay.

D

served its purpose

This pedal was needed when I didn't have on board reverb so now it doesn't get used but if you don't want constant reverb it gets the job done
