Reviews

PROS

  • Offers six distinct fuzz tones, from mosquito-like to smooth, thick fuzz

  • Built with heavy-duty steel casing, highly durable and roadworthy

  • Easy to modify due to through holes on the circuit board

  • Top-mounted jacks and secure battery holder improve setup and stability

  • Versatile in achieving a wide range of fuzz sounds, even saxophone-like tones

  • Particularly effective with slightly dirty tube amps, like a Marshall

  • Affordable price for the range of tones it provides

  • Works well with humbuckers and offers a full-bodied sound

  • Provides a sweet 'swell' and functions as an overdrive at low intensity

  • Highly recommended for players willing to experiment

CONS

  • Lacks output volume, may require a booster pedal for live settings

  • Tweak knob functions more as a filter than altering fuzz character

  • Does not clean up with guitar's volume like typical germanium fuzzes

  • Requires specific signal chain positioning, first in FX chain

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz.

Features and functionality

  • The tweak knob acts more as a tone control, altering EQ resonant frequencies, rather than adjusting voltage.

    Source
  • Includes a switchable input cap, enhancing versatility and allowing for Hendrix-like clean tones without adjusting guitar volume.

    Source
  • Some users experience unexpected high voltage readings when using a 9V wall adapter, suggesting potential measurement errors.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • The pedal's circuit board allows for swapping silicon transistors with through-hole germaniums and adding a bias control.

    Source
  • Increasing volume mod places unity volume at the LED, with 3-4 on the selector and fuzz full up.

    Source
  • Installing a 20k pot at R5 allows a range from glitchy to creamy fuzz, enhancing tonal flexibility for different styles.

    Source
  • Adding a trimpot on R3 can adjust bias for temperature changes, useful for germanium fuzz circuits.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users report a volume issue, where the output is quieter than when the pedal is bypassed, even at maximum settings.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Though designed as a fuzz face replica, owners note it doesn't sound identical to a traditional fuzz face.

    Source
  • Can perform Fuzz Face sounds at top end and offers milder tones compared to FZ-5 or Earthquaker Cloven Hoof.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Works well for electric nylon guitars, offering mild modes that avoid overwhelming muddiness.

    Source

Other

  • Top-mounted jacks improve pedalboard layout and connectivity.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • When measuring bias, ensure correct measurement points; Q1 and Q2 labels might be swapped in the Tweak Fuzz.

Great Pedal!

what a great pedal! I got it a couple years ago and its great!

jimmarchi1

this is actually a silicon transistor version of the dirty boy fuzz, Duncan licensed the circuit from blues saraceno's dad instead of just ripping it off (its just a modified fuzzface/tonebender2.5)... mad props to Seymour for kicking cash to the innovator who added that tweak control
