Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive.

Features and functionality

  • The Seymour Duncan 805 features a 3-band EQ, offering more tonal versatility than traditional overdrives like the SD-1, which has limited tone control.

    Source
  • The 805 runs at 9-18V, offering increased headroom and tonal possibilities beyond its default settings.

    Source
  • The midrange control is particularly wide-ranging, allowing for tones from honky leads to scooped sounds, making it highly adaptable.

    Source
  • The 805 maintains transparency, avoiding the mid bump typical of Tube Screamer pedals, allowing for more natural tone shaping.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners appreciate the 805 for its reduced noise and feedback, making it suitable for clean and versatile overdrive tones across genres like jazz, blues, and rock.

    Source
  • Users appreciate the ability to fine-tune the pedal to avoid the "boxy" sound of traditional TS pedals, enhancing its adaptability to different rigs.

    Source
  • Owners note the pedal's ability to keep treble off entirely, which is appreciated by those seeking a smoother, less harsh overdrive.

    Source

Comparisons

  • While the SD-1 is favored for its classic sound and asymmetrical clipping, the 805 is considered more "hi-fi" and versatile by users familiar with both pedals.

    Source
  • Some users highlight the SD-1's ability to stack well with other pedals, attributing its effectiveness to its characteristic bass cut and smooth tonal qualities.

    Source
  • The 805 offers a more versatile experience than the Lovepedal Kanji Eternity and EQD Palisades, with more manageable pricing and tonal flexibility.

    Source
  • Described as a "TS on crack," the 805 provides enhanced features without reaching the extreme versatility of the EQD Palisades.

    Source
  • Some users prefer the 805 over Ibanez or Maxon models for its tone transparency and EQ versatility, offering a departure from the traditional mid-heavy sound.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The 805's EQ allows it to produce more than just Tube Screamer-like sounds, making it adaptable for various musical styles, unlike simpler pedals.

Quick Hit: Seymour Duncan 805 Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive impresses with its versatile 808-style stomp, featuring a responsive 3-band EQ and significant gain for metal tones. Its ability to shape sound with precision makes it a delight for tone enthusiasts. However, its lack of transparency as a boost may not satisfy purists. Overall, this pedal is a solid choice for those seeking a modern twist on a classic.

One hell of a tubescreamer

Smooth sounding with an 18v option. It allows more tone-shaping with its 3-band cut/boost eq, but you're already golden even if you leave them all at 12:00

GREAT FOR LEADS

I PLAY ALOT OF METAL IT FEELS LIKE IT TAKES A LITTLE CHUNK AWAY FROM MY PRE AMP DISTORTION PEDAL BUT IT REALLLLY BRINGS OUT THE BRIGHTNESS IN PLAYING

Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive

When I first discovered this pedal, I was giddy like a little kid! 808-style overdrive, turquoise-colored pedal, made by Seymour Duncan? I had to have it. Since I've had it, the 805 has proven to be a very well driven overdrive. It can take you into some heavy territory with the right tweaking, serve as a clean boost, or even get you into SRV-style dirt. I love it. The 3-band EQ is also great for more tone-shaping. I definitely recommend it!

“Here’s the pedalboard I’ve been using for the last few Opeth runs. I tend to change my overdrive pedal a lot; right now it’s the Seymour Duncan 805. It has a three-band EQ, which I use for slightly cutting the mids and adding bass. "
