Squier Jaguar Review - What do you mean, modified?

guitarcher.com

The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar in 3 Tone Sunburst is a charming yet problematic instrument. While it offers a nostalgic aesthetic and a budget-friendly price, it comes with significant design flaws. The absence of a locking tailpiece and poor neck angle result in persistent tuning issues, requiring immediate modifications. Despite its vintage appeal and decent pickups, the guitar demands considerable aftermarket investment to reach playable standards. Overall, its allure is overshadowed by practical shortcomings, leaving players with a three-legged puppy that needs a lot of care.

Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar guitar review - menga.net

menga.net

The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar impresses with its classic Surf Green hue and solid build quality, boasting a comfortable short scale neck that doesn't feel cramped. While switchgear functions flawlessly, the Jaguar's intricate lead circuit controls present a learning curve, especially with its "strangle switch" that alters tone dramatically. Despite fast playability and reliable tuning, first-timers might struggle with the unconventional control layout and multi-groove string saddles. Overall, it's a great guitar with vintage charm and balanced performance, though patience is needed to master its idiosyncrasies. Ideal for those who appreciate its unique design and are willing to adapt to its quirks.

Stunning for the price

The most faithfully original reproduction Jag on the market, including 'quirks'! Bought as a cheap tour guitar that kind of does everything, but this after a few mods (bridge, scratch-plate and re-solder) has become a mainstay in the collection. The build quality does show here and there, for example; the output socket wiring came loose on one occasion and required the aforementioned emergency surgery. After that, I went through and touched up all the connections just to be sure although I'm sure they were actually fine. I honestly cannot believe the value for money. I've played a low end American Jag since and I'm not sure if, blindfolded, I could tell the difference.

Great guitar, AMAZING if you mod it a bit!

This is by far my favourite guitar I've got yet, as it's most comfortable to play, the whammy bar doesn't detune the guitar by too much, and it just feels great! The only problem I've had with it is the crappy bridge that comes with it, which if replaced with a fender mustang bridge makes it a great guitar. The intonation also needed adjusted, after that this guitar became my favourite of all.

Precious and rare beauty

Awesome guitar, with amazing clean sounds and decent on distorted sounds; but the rythm circuit sounds too dark and has not enough treble, and the bridge is quite problematic.

jack_simpson

Amazing

I don't know what it is about this guitar, although it is the cheapest guitar I own, it is still the one that is played the most, it is great

jacksimpson
