"Up until recently we used the Yamaha QX1 sequencer with great success but that wasn't a popular machine - people didn't realise how brilliant it was. It was a really excellent machine. The only problem was it wouldn't record an external sync signal, but there are ways around that as well. Our problem was we were always running out of tracks because the QX1 only has eight. We were finding we were doing more and more things before we actually put them on tape. So then we changed over to the Steinberg Pro-24."

“I use Cubase audio-the VST full-blown 24 program. I even used that sequencer back when it was called Pro 24. I hard disk record on a Macintosh. I also have two ADATs and a Tascam DA-98, which I use for films, but most of the time if I’m making my own stuff I do it in the computer, and I spit it out either directly as a CD master, or I go through a Lightpipe to a DAT player. I do all my mixing and panning and EQ’ing within the domain of the panels of Cubase.” Ridgway currently uses a Mackie 24o8 console but says he’s seriously considering buying a digital board in the near future. “I recently purchased a Kurzweil K2500 and maxed that out with all the memory and sound blocks and the sampler. I like that a lot, especially for soundtracks and orchestral textures. I also have two Roland 770s that I use for sampling. I’m pretty lean and mean here.”

BOTH CLIMIE AND Fisher have their own separate home set-ups. These have Fostex B16's, A&H mixing desks and recently acquired D50's in common, but very little else. Climie works mainly with the Sequential Studio 440 linked to a Macintosh run Performer sequencing program, while Fisher prefers the Atari based Steinberg Pro24 driving a combination of DX7, TX802, Akai S900 and LinnDrum. Between them they also have a full complement of effects including the Roland SRV2000 ("thoroughly recommended") and the Yamaha REX50.
