Description
Dual footswitches. Expression control. Parametric EQ. High-gain and low-gain flexibility. It’s all here. And as well as combining the best features of the PDF-1 and PDF-2 in a single pedal, the PDF-1X also comes with a shiny new feature – a volume knob. This helps it play nicely with other pedals, and opens up a new range of tonal options across the clean and dirty channels. The gain control is now an internal trimpot, which is pre-set to PDF-1 territory but can be ramped all the way up into PDF-2 high-gain anarchy if that’s your bag.
With that added versatility, the PDF-1X gives you boost, overdrive, distortion, and fuzz in one pedal. Not to mention the parametric EQ control and expression pedal functionality for precise tweaking and phaser or wah sounds. It’s a lot. But you’re worth it. And you get to decide if it’s a set-and-forget, always-on secret sauce for your playing, a versatile scalpel for finding the perfect tone in the studio, or anything in between.

Great Parametric EQ!
So this is a unique one to have on your pedal board! If you’re buying for the distortion it’s just ok. The real thing here is the EQ and clean boost to me! If running on a clean amp it may sound subtle to you.
Thing is when you EQ up, it can be perceived as volume. Or even sound like more width and dimension is added. Very cool to try on a scooped Fender amp! But the way I use it is into an Ampeg VT-40 cranked. As well as on my Sky King amp with a Muff and Rat pedal. You’ll notice the EQ changes more so running into distortion, or a very driven amp. It can add punch, and let you dial where you sit in the live band mix. Insanely valuable if you’re like me, and record all your own music.
I bring in 80% finished songs, and write my guitar parts in a recording space. With this pedal, I can adjust to my demo mixes playing over a PA, and nail my EQ tone before the mixing stage. In a band setting you can put yourself in the middle, back or do cool filter stuff. Sound thin, cocked wah or my favorite boost the low mids with a wide Q band. It makes everything focused, and you can just sit right in the mix.
Would def recommend for anyone playing in a band with more than one guitar player, or if you battle your bass player. Also for those that produce in the box with a busy mix of synths, this is a great tool to shape your guitar sound live to fit mixes and be heard. It also does the thing people buy this for, but it’s not a QOTSA pedal in a box. You need something on the other end…be it a tweed, Ampeg, Marshall, Rat, Muff or SFT pedal. The built in distortion is ok, and would work in a pinch for things.
But the power is in pairing this with grit. Also it’s really great on synths, and even bass! Just such a great tool to have whether it’ll be a boost with EQ, or even an always on behind the amp. I’d use two if I could afford it. One set on the low mids always on, then one up front first to dial in my pedals. I love the mid setting, as it just works on muffs and rats no fuss or extra stacking. Turn it off and your clean is still in tact, without it sounding like a pedal is on.
