hmmm, I am always tempted to buy one of these as an alternative to all my tube amps (and lots of my 80s heroes used them at times) but always chicken out.... so they sound good for solid state?

One of the best of the 70s/80s SS amps. The built in distortion is terrible. The stock speaker is neutral. They tend to be reliable. I see them regularly for around $200-ish.

"The Sound"
The Yamaha G100 series II amps are built like tanks, and last even longer. 100 watts, solid state. The clean sound is unbeatable IMO for jazz styles. If you open it up you'll see the board is full of JRC4558 op amps, which is why the thing sounds so warm.
