    Source

    Source
  • The SY55, part of the early AWM2 series, is noted for its potential in programming unique sounds, though its presets are considered less impressive.

    Source

Critic Reviews

Yamaha SY55 (MT Apr 90)

muzines.co.uk

The Yamaha SY55 is a versatile and affordable synthesizer, effectively combining the TG55's advanced tone generation with a built-in sequencer and keyboard. Its AWM2 technology delivers clean output with a variety of sampled waveforms and dynamic voice assignments, making it ideal for musicians seeking a multitimbral setup without breaking the bank. While the SY55 offers a solid range of features, such as velocity and aftertouch sensitivity, its internal sequencer is limited to eight tracks, which might be a drawback for more complex compositions. Additionally, it lacks the extra individual outputs found in the TG55. Despite these limitations, the SY55 stands out as a competitive entry-level workstation, praised for its sound quality and value. Perfect for those wanting an all-in-one solution at an attractive price point.

Great Fm synth

I love my Sy55, vrey good sounds, structure for you to build you own and the possibility of uilding brand new sounds using layers. The downside? far too small sequencer memory, and the memory cards are nowdays as expensive as the synth itself!

Indestructible

After nearly 30 years, it looks and sounds like new. I still use it as a master keyboard, and has a few usable sounds.
