Monster Preamp Pedal

A lot of my contemporary guitar players are using things like an ACS1 or a Strymon Iridium as their amp and cab in a box needs. And those are nice, I've played them before. I decided to go a different direction and bought this monster of a preamp pedal (For less than $200 bucks on reverb). It checked all the boxes, three channels with three different amp type flavors that are powered by a 12ax7 preamp tube. Buffered Effects loop AND a dedicated cab-sim line out. It works with a good power supply (Cioks DC-10 is what mine is running off of) and is now the brains of my main board. The Cab Sim sounds pretty damn good on it's own. This pedal is full analog so you can't load any IR's, it's old school but works surprisingly well.

Recently had a worship gig where I used this pedal with an amp (Line out to Effects Return of amp) and the pedal's cab sim line out went direct to front of house. Worked really well.

This pedal super surprised me. It's easy to do a tube roll with the preamp tube. I threw in a JJ Gold Pin 12AX7 and it made this already great sounding pedal really scream. The cleans are fantastic and super usable in any situation, it also works with overdrive pedals just like a clean tube amp. The crunch is great, can go from a vox chime all the way to a Marshall style crunch. The EQ is powerful on this thing and switching the amp type changes the characteristics of the pedal a lot. The lead is also fantastic, it's shared EQ with the crunch but has a separate gain knob. It works for what it is.

Also this pedal is built like a damn tank. very sturdy in an all metal enclosure. It's kind of wild that not a lot of guitarists are using this pedal more often. They are kind of a rarity and I get asked about it often on my worship gigs. I can't give this thing less than five stars. If you don't have the coin to get an ACS1 or an iridium and want a preamp pedal that can act as your all in one amp solution on the go, this is it.

It tends to be a little raspier than a mesa V-Twin but these are kick ass tube distortion/preamp/overdrive pedals. Built really solid and nary a click or squeak after 3 years of gigging. Ive loaned it to a friend who says its got him playing electric again. Good value for something built so solid and does a bunch of stuff well...
